"It felt a bit a squeeze for 6 adults, would have been more comfortable for 4. We were frustrated on our last morning as our host was not around, and left no means of contacting them other than a house phone number, which meant we left without a chance to reclaim our £50 Good Housekeeping deposit."
    Mrs Blakeley ‐ 1 Jul 2019
    " Would recommend. "
    Miss Thompson ‐ 1 May 2019
" The barn is comfortable, cosy and has everything we needed. Henry, the owner, was a fantastic host - from being greeted with a bottle of wine when we arrived quite late on Friday to digging out a football for the kids to play in the field first thing Saturday - he was helpful and friendly and thoughtful. The only suggestion would be to more clearly describe the bedroom set up in the description on the website - but to be honest Henry clarified all that with one phone call. The area is lovely of course. We recommend The Merchants House in Longnor for a meal but Curlew Barn is a lovely peaceful base to enjoy a relaxed evening and very pretty surroundings. "

" Beautiful views and lovely hot tub. Very relaxing break away. The owner Henry was lovely too and took the time to show us how things worked in the cottage and about the local area. "

"This was a great break in a beautiful location. The property owner wad on site and very helpful. I would thoroughly recommend this property for someone looking for a lovely property in a great location for access to the sights of the surrounding area."

"We stayed here in November for a girls weekend to celebrate two of my friends birthdays. I couldn't fault the place at all, the barn was what we expected and more. And we took full advantage of the hot tub the whole long weekend we stayed there even on the Saturday when it started to snow it still didn't stop us having a good time. It was cosy and the scenery was lovely to look at. The owners Henry and marianne were lovely and pleasant and answered all questions asked to their full knowledge. I am grateful of the experience because you don't realise how long it took me to find a cottage with a hot tub that allowed a young group of girls between 20-23 to enjoy a break away without an age limit of 25 years and over or having to be in couples. Overall it was a weekend to remember and we enjoyed out complimentary bottle of wine too"

"We booked this property before for a girls weekend away and we could not resist coming back this time in the summer to enjoy the walks in the Peak district! We were not let down with the sunshine and hot tub which gave us great views over the countryside. We were welcomed by the owners who were extremley friendly and helped us with understanding what new restaurants we could visit in the area. Super chilled weekend and we will always recommend to our friends to stay here 10/10!"

"Lovely family break. Fulfilled everything we needed, and more. Exceptionally clean cottage, plus the hot tub was a welcome and enjoyable addition. Thank you for a fabulous time."

"Owner was friendly and informative of local places to visit. Nice location Hottub was amazing. Would definitely recommend"

"We chose this property for my partners birthday being one of the few left that had a hot tub due to our late booking after plans had changed last minute. The owners were very friendly and helpful, the property was in an excellent condition and was very cosy. Worked perfectly having a few rooms so that I could surprise my partner with a few of his friends coming to visit. We would definitely consider going back there again"

"The cottage was in a beautiful location, it had everything we needed and an extra fridge was amazing to have haha! The hot tub really made our weekend! We were a group of 7 girls on a 30th birthday weekend and we enjoyed getting in the hot tub at night and watching the stars, absolute bliss. The cottage is very close to Alton towers and the small towns Leek and Ashbourne. We found it excellent value for money and loved that we were just left our own devices to enjoy our stay. The owners were super friendly and helpful and i would certainly recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking for something a little different in that area. We will certainly consider booking the 2nd barn alongside this one next time to bring a few more friends with us. Thank you, we had an amazing weekend! :)"
    - Mrs Kershaw, October 2017
"Henry, the owner, was very welcoming and left us a nice bottle of wine to welcome us. Lots of information leaflets were provided, from local walks and sightseeing to takeaway menus. Would certainly return in future."

"Myself and 5 friends stayed at Curlew Barn to celebrate our 50th birthdays. On booking we were told check in was 6pm but we asked if it was possible to leave our bags earlier as we wanted to make use of the full day but not have to take our bags with us when walking round Leek (none of us were driving)! We were told that we couldn't leave our bags, which we thought was a bit strange that we couldn't just leave them in a room or barn or anywhere so we were getting prepared to drag our bags round Leek. However, Henry (the owner) did tell us we could check in at 4:30pm instead, which was good of him. When we arrived our minibus driver took us to the barn just to show us where it was before we were being dropped off in the Leek to have a wander round and something to eat. We met up with the owner who was very kind and helpful and said we could in fact leave our bags in the barn. We were so grateful as it would have changed our experience of Leek dragging heavy bags with us so we wanted to say thank you very much for letting us leave our bags but I think it would have saved a lot of worry if we could have agreed that before arrival. Curlew Barn was lovely and the owners were equally lovely, we were made to feel very welcome and given a bottle of wine as we arrived. The hot tub was lovely, I'd never been in one before and loved it. Leek was a really nice place and we walked to Ipstones one day which is a 2 mile walk with a couple of pubs, where we enjoyed a pub lunch. A very good experience and we would definitely go back."

"We had a fantastic weekend away with 6 girls. It snowed which made the location even more beautiful. We travelled to Chatsworth Christmas market on a Saturday. They were very helpful, we were greeted with a bottle of wine and they were very flexible with the hot tub use which hasn’t happened in previous places stayed!"

"Really nice cottage for the 6 of us. The snow was awesome but the hot tub was hotttt. Lovely walks and great relax chill time. Owners really nice and helpful in any way. Already booked for later in the year. We have lots of days out planned so really looking forward to our weekend. Thouroughly reccommend. 5 * all round."
    - Miss Burke, March 2018
"We all had such a wonderful weekend staying at Curlew Barn. The facilities were excellent and it was great value for money. I am sure we will be back to stay again in the future."
    - Miss Stevens, April 2018
"Amazing barn we absolutely loved using the hot tub and the rooms were so cosy and comfortable. There's everything you need here. Great for a relaxing break and the Jervis arms was a brilliant pub to walk to for a meal out."
    - Mrs Smyth, June 2018
"The property has three bedrooms - however one of the small eaves bedroom can only be stood upright in, right in the very centre of the room, and is only accessible through another bedroom - total lack of privacy, and would really only suit very young children, not an adult couple. The third bedroom, which houses three beds is also an eaves room, and unless the third bed was placed in the centre of the room, it could not be used. Owners house is only a couple of yards from the property, and they are constantly on standby to monitor visitors movements. The optional advance notice hire of a hot tub for £100 per weekend implies that the tub is not a fixture. However it is a permanent fixture in the small courtyard, the only outdoor space, and is constantly plugged in and ready for use. For guests who at some point do choose to use the fixture, and who offer to pay, the request is refused. There is also no bbq available, which was listed. We found the property severely lacking for £671 for three nights, and we also found the owners intimidating."
    - Mr Featherstone, June 2018
"Well maintained, comfortable accommodation. Owner met us and gave us a good welcome taking time to explain everything and told us of local places to eat. Owner was available regularly and was always very helpful. It is described as having WiFi but we were never able to access it so should perhaps be taken out of advertising. All in all a very enjoyable holiday in a brilliant location for exploring the area around."

    Mrs Catherine Goulding, Tadcaster,
"Really enjoyed staying here. Quite quirky. Hot tub was fab and plenty of space in the courtyard outside. Very private too. Would definitely recommend to others and come and stay again."
    Miss Susan Harper, Lochgelly, Fife
"Fantastic holiday! 5-10 minutes drive to Alton Towers so kids were very happy! Hot tub was amazing-perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine after standing in queues all day! Greeted by the owner when we arrived and was presented with a lovely bottle of rose wine to get our holiday off to a good start. Would visit again!"

"We were met by the owner who was really nice and friendly. He showed us round the cottage and gave us a free bottle of wine and box of cakes as a welcome gift. The service all in all was very good. The cottage is very old but had been well modernised with all the mod cons you would need for todays living needs. The lounge nice and bright and a really comfy space. Kitchen had plenty of equipment and anything that we needed we could borrow from the farmhouse so no need to want for anything. The Hot tubs are brill and a real luxury item, although it does take a bit of figuring out how to use the jets and turn everything off for the tub to work properly but we managed it ok. The locality is ideal for travelling in four directions through the peaks as situated quite nicely on a crossroads. There is a bus that drops you off at the property if you fancy leaving your car at home. Plenty of places and sights to see. The least thing I liked was going home as it was a really nice place and so quite a culture shock from town life. Will defo come back."

"The cottage had great heritage and was impeccably clean and tidy. The hot tub made a great weekend, including the visits to alton Towers and Monkey Sanctuary. Loved the modern kitchen and allowing space to prepare meals whilst children waited in the dining area. The bedrooms were cosy and comfortable, whilst the patio outside was lovely to use for BBQ and relaxing in the hot sun. Lovely weekend! Would definitely recommend! Thankyou"

"Good time had by all. Been to Bottomhouse Barn before and booked this one for smaller group. No probs all round. Nice farming community and very quiet. Recommend yes"
    Mr Lyons, Blackpool, Lancashire
"The owner was very helpful and gave us plenty of advice. It was an ideal base for a family holiday with plenty to do. The cottage was lovely with lots of room for the six of us."
    Mrs Smith, Redcar, North Yorkshire
"Hot tub. Close to Alton towers."
    Mrs Bowman, Chelmsford, Essex
"8 members of my family went up & met for a family wedding in Stoke-on-Trent. The cottage was very easy to find and very easy to get to Alton Towers from which is where my Son & new Daughter-in-Law's wedding day was held. The hot tub was great at the end of a long day and enjoyed by us all. "
