    About this property

Enjoy a family holiday staying in this 18th-century stone built cottage, situated in a central location for touring the Peak District.
Lillegarth is a wonderful, 18th-century stone built cottage in the popular Hope Valley village of Bradwell, within the heart of the Peak District National Park. Originally two cottages now opened up as one, the property is full of character and charm with exposed beams, low doorways, exposed stone work and steps between rooms. In an elevated position, surrounded by extensive grounds and accessed down a narrow lane, the setting is peaceful and with views that are nothing less than spectacular. In the winter months, the gas log-effect wood burner provides a warm, cosy environment in what is a spacious property, and for the summer, the summerhouse is a perfect place to relax whilst the sun goes down and admire magnificent views. In addition there are several other outdoor seating areas all surrounded by fantastic views.

As a village, Bradwell is a picturesque, rabbit-warren of narrow lanes and tiny cottages, built up a steep hillside, and as can be seen from Lillegarth, the village is surrounded by fabulous countryside. Making an excellent base, local facilities within the village include shops, pubs and places to eat. A local pub serving food is a couple of minutes’ walk from the end of the lane and there is also a Michelin recommended restaurant in the village. If you’re familiar with Bradwell’s Dairy Ice Cream, it is lovingly made in the village and in the summer months it can also be purchased directly from the factory shop.

The surrounding area holds a whole host of attractions including the ever popular honeypot village of Castleton, just 10 minutes away. Hathersage, also 10 minutes, is a larger village with a wealth of facilities including an open-air heated swimming pool in the summer months. The market town of Bakewell, home to the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, can be reached in just 20 minutes, and the spa town of Buxton is a similar distance. For outdoor enthusiasts, being surrounded by National Park countryside means there are numerous tracks, trails and footpaths offering cycling and walks from Bradwell, and the start of the Pennine Way is at nearby Edale. Finally, for any thrill seekers, Matlock with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham is around 40 minutes away, and the UKs premier theme park Alton Towers around an hour.

"Only one thing of note. Access is tricky in a big vehicle but it may well have mentioned that in the details and I haven't noted it."

    "Superb in every way."

"Lovely cottage. Very well equipped and very comfortable. As advertised there were lots of steps inside & outside, our 3-yr old granddaughter managed the steps inside fine. There was a good solid stair gate provided too. Bradwell is lovely village with 2 playgrounds and Ye Olde Bowling Green pub just down the hill served great food. Co-op within walking distance was well stocked too and open 7-10 every day. Special thanks to Gilly, caretaker who was very helpful."

"Lovely welcome and greet and the cottage was spacious and comfortable. A lot of thought had been put into making our stay as comfortable as possible. Location was fantastic and the many seating areas in the garden provided lots of views of the beautiful countryside. Sitting in the summerhouse on a beautiful evening with that fantastic view was a real treat!"

"Lillegarth was exactly as described and met our expectations perfectly. Lots of little extra touches which were very much appreciated. Situation and outlook from the cottage absolutely glorious. Lots to see and do in the area and excellent choice of places to eat. Thanks for the recommendations and information note before we arrived, made a couple of reservations before we travelled. Excellent walking in the heart of the Hope Valley, and Chatsworth only 20 mins drive. Very highly recommended."

"A comfortable, well equipped cottage in a great position for exploring the Peak District - great views from the cottage. There is plenty of space inside and furnishings are comfortable; we felt at home immediately. Good position for walking - we walked from the cottage to Castleton and Mam Tor. A wonderful week."

"An excellent cottage. Clean, cosy with all mod cons."

"Beautiful, well equipped cottage in an ideal location for walking in the Peak District. Lots of space inside and outside the cottage. If you are tall, watch out for several low beams throughout the cottage. I'm 6ft and banged my head several times!"

"The cottage is absolutely gorgeous! Very comfortable, excellently kitted out, from the kitchen to the living room to the bedrooms. Ian & Claire were ever so helpful from the time of the booking until we finally met them on the day of our departure – excellent “hosts” who couldn’t be any more helpful. highly recommended for anybody looking for a base in the Peak District."
