Lillegarth is a wonderful, 18th-century stone built cottage in the popular Hope Valley village of Bradwell, within the heart of the Peak District National Park. Originally two cottages now opened up as one, the property is full of character and charm with exposed beams, low doorways, exposed stone work and steps between rooms. In an elevated position, surrounded by extensive grounds and accessed down a narrow lane, the setting is peaceful and with views that are nothing less than spectacular. In the winter months, the gas log-effect wood burner provides a warm, cosy environment in what is a spacious property, and for the summer, the summerhouse is a perfect place to relax whilst the sun goes down and admire magnificent views. In addition there are several other outdoor seating areas all surrounded by fantastic views.
As a village, Bradwell is a picturesque, rabbit-warren of narrow lanes and tiny cottages, built up a steep hillside, and as can be seen from Lillegarth, the village is surrounded by fabulous countryside. Making an excellent base, local facilities within the village include shops, pubs and places to eat. A local pub serving food is a couple of minutes’ walk from the end of the lane and there is also a Michelin recommended restaurant in the village. If you’re familiar with Bradwell’s Dairy Ice Cream, it is lovingly made in the village and in the summer months it can also be purchased directly from the factory shop.
The surrounding area holds a whole host of attractions including the ever popular honeypot village of Castleton, just 10 minutes away. Hathersage, also 10 minutes, is a larger village with a wealth of facilities including an open-air heated swimming pool in the summer months. The market town of Bakewell, home to the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, can be reached in just 20 minutes, and the spa town of Buxton is a similar distance. For outdoor enthusiasts, being surrounded by National Park countryside means there are numerous tracks, trails and footpaths offering cycling and walks from Bradwell, and the start of the Pennine Way is at nearby Edale. Finally, for any thrill seekers, Matlock with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham is around 40 minutes away, and the UKs premier theme park Alton Towers around an hour.

"We had a fabulous stay at Lillegarth Cottage between Christmas and New Year 2019. The accommodation was lovely, and really contributed to the quality of our stay. We were a party of six adults, (three couples) and the accommodation works really well for us. All the rooms are really spacious. It is without doubt the best equipped rented property we have ever stayed in. It is also perfectly located in a beautiful setting and within reach of many glorious walks. We would definitely go back and I have no hesitation in recommending it to others."

"When booking I have a long long list of "must haves" this cottage didn't dissapoint. The cottage owners have thought of everything, from soft towels, to comfy bed, plenty of hot water and spotless as well!! Cathy the caretaker was great and always on hand if we had any problems, which we didn't. The views from the the top garden are spectacular, the village is well served with pubs and shops. You are no more than 30/40mins to most attractions. The drive up to the cottage is narrow but we managed ok and there is parking on the street below. Thank you again for a lovely holiday we had a great time even if the weather was a little wet!!!!"

"What a lovely cottage. The kitchen is very well equipped, the beds really comfortable and bathrooms spotlessly clean. A bottle of wine, a cake and some milk were a lovely surprise on arrival. We loved our stay and couldn’t fault it in any way. Highly recommended especially as there are great pubs in the village and a useful food shop too."

"A large and somewhat rambling cottage, having been extended/combined with another. This results in the living room being a little small, eg with only 4 comfortable seats to watch TV together, in a cottage marketed for 6 people. Fortunately not a problem for us, but others should consider it carefully. We found it generally fine, as there are several large tables, ideal for laying out the board games that like to play and which often last several days!Comfort was generally good, with everything provided that we could want. Small issues included a blunt bread knife (making loaves crumble but not slice well); very hot bedrooms, made worse by difficulty in opening the small windows (we unfortunately suffered a severe heatwave while there); and a bath which splashed a lot while filling (tending to make puddles on the floor)."

"We had a wonderful stay at Lillegarth Cottage. It was cosy, clean, comfortable and near to wonderful walks in every direction. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival and had everything we needed for a great New Year's break. Highly recommended!"

"Only one thing of note. Access is tricky in a big vehicle but it may well have mentioned that in the details and I haven't noted it."
