That’s of course if you don’t find the many eateries and pubs on your doorstep just too tempting. The choices on offer really make for a great holiday, whatever the weather! The great outdoor splendours of the Peak District National Park is a very short drive or on your doorstep there are the shops, galleries and cafes, not forgetting the theatre with a full program of headline acts all year round. If you are in the mood for a bit of pampering you’re in for a treat as the university has created a beauty and wellness spa which receives rave reviews and is just 2 minutes' walk away. So if you are in the mood to be a great adventurer or a city slicker there’s something here for you all year round.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House.
