    About this property

Tideswell 3 miles. A lovely, spacious detached cottage with excellent views and extensive gardens in the rural village of Wardlow, close to Tideswell. This delightful cottage is perfectly placed for families or groups to enjoy the very best that the Peak District National Park has to offer. This attractive cottage has been sympathetically modernised with a tasteful combination of contemporary furniture and soft furnishings. Many of the original period features, such as beamed ceilings and quarry tile floors, have been preserved. The three bedrooms, two of which have en-suite showers, are spacious with lovely views, and can be offered as super king-size doubles or twin beds, making the cottage very adaptable to the particular needs of your family or group. Also the family bathroom is a great place for a luxurious soak or tired muscle therapy. The farmhouse-style kitchen with dining area is an ideal place to gather for a hearty meal, while your group debates which of the myriad of things to do next. There is an attractive sitting room with woodburning stove, as well as a snug with open fireplace, if you wish to be far from the madding crowd. The utility room and the two halls means there’s plenty of space to hang up coats and park muddy boots, and there’s even a bed and supply of toys for Fido! Outside, the extensive gardens, with open views of the surrounding countryside, afford maximum sun worship. If you are either a mountain or road cyclist, you will already know that this part of the world is a two-wheel heaven, so it’s good to know there is also a garage where your trusty steed can be stabled securely. A large choice of pubs, eateries and shops are available in the neighbouring pretty villages of Ashford-in-the-Water, Great Longstone and Tideswell. With fantastic walks, rides, and tourist attractions all within easy reach, this is a cottage which can offer a superb holiday at any time of year.

The village of Tideswell stands in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Famous for its fine church dedicated to St John the Baptist, known as "The Cathedral of the Peak", the village is also noted for its well dressing and carnival wakes. There is excellent walking with rugged peaks to the north, gentle hills and dales to the south and Millers Dale just outside the village.

"I was at the cottage for 3 nights, it was my hen do with my oldest and dearest friends as I'm getting married this week. It was beautifully furnished and had plenty of room for 6 of us and 2 dogs. I loved the little touches- dog bowls, collars and treats for our pets, wine , bread and milk for the adults. The kitchen was well equipped as were the bathrooms. The views surrounding the house were spectacular. It's ideally located to Monsal Head were we went walking. I would love to come back at some stage. Thank you for a great memorable hen do."

    Mrs Hince
"We had a glorious week in this comfortable , well thought out, very well equipped and beautifully furnished cottage. Beds and sofas were super and comfortable and kitchen pretty and welcoming. The location was good for us, we were looking for good walks and were spoilt for choice, it was very helpful having OS maps of the area on the walls. The owners had thought of and provided everything we and the dog might need. Thank you for a wonderful week. PS I stupidly left a dressing gown* on the back of our bedroom door, ( the room was called Topley Pike) Please could you ask the housekeeper / cleaner whether it would be possible to post it back to me? I would be happy to pay postage costs. * pale blue and white cotton long dressing gown, made by a company called Indian Runner Many thanks , Sarah"

Mrs Lucy Farrell, Bury St. Edmunds,
"The cottage was perfect for the five of us, with the two en-suites and family bathroom. Really loved the location as the next villages were only a 10 minute drive if that. Plenty of dog walking nearby and most importantly good pubs, serving good food! "
    Mr Sam Walls, Warwick, Warwickshire
"Galena Cottage is a fantastic property and has clearly been carefully created with the holiday makers/customers in mind; making sure that everything we could want was thought of. The cottage itself had beautiful décor, picturesque scenery and comfortable and clean furniture. We loved the little things; the vast supply of games, DvDs, books, tourist info, maps, local knowledge... Perfect!"
    Miss Anna Brewer, Ely, Cambridgeshire
"Attention to detail was outstanding. A gorgeous cottage with everything we needed."
    Mrs Lorraine Stephenson, Lincoln,
"There was excellent attention to detail and excellent facilities for dogs. Will definitely return."
    - Miss Pedley, November 2018
"Unfortunately the road is quite noisy, especially Monday morning when the traders are driving to Bakewell Market, and the double glazing does not quite fit to block the noise on the front. Can't really fault the cottage. All the rooms were a lovely size and they have thought about staying with dogs and accommodating them. With four of us plus two dogs staying we all had plenty of space and were not falling over one another and to all have our own bathrooms made life nice and easy. The stove in the lounge was a delight and made the whole house very cosy."
    - Mrs Evans, November 2018
"Best cottage we have stayed in."
    - Mrs Brass, September 2018
"From the booking process through to our cottage information was first class so that we got the most out of our stay. Galena cottage is a gem, extremely well fitted out and presented with everything we could want. The welcome pack was most thoughtful and our dog enjoyed his treats too. We really enjoyed the log burner as the evenings became cooler. It is in a perfect location for exploring the Peak District and we will definitely be returning to stay at Galena cottage. Thank you."

"The owners were quick to respond to queries, the cottage exceeded our expectations as regards cleanliness, size and amenities. Its location is idyllic in terms of views and cycle rides from the cottage and from everything to the logs for the fire, the dry storage for our bikes, the welcome for our dog and the hamper on arrival, our experience has been simply amazing. A holiday to remember, thank you so much and my family and I are forever grateful."
    - Mrs Lomax, August 2018
"A wonderful cottage that catered for every minute detail for both humans and dogs."
    - Mr Smith, July 2018
"As there were six of us and a baby it was perfect because it was so spacious. It was also very well equipped and we loved the large kitchen. The beds were also very comfortable with plenty of storage. We also liked the garden and the beautiful views."

"It was tastefully decorated and they have put a lot of thought and effort in to the cottage as there was everything you could possibly need. 3 good sized bedrooms- 2 ensuite which left the main bathroom to be used by the other bedroom. Downstairs toilet and utility. Having 2 rooms was perfect as it meant we were not all on top of each other and had our own space. Location was excellent- walks from the door and a short ride in the car from Bakewell. Would definitely stay again"
    - Mr Mallard, May 2018
"Having said this the cottage details state that there are steps inside the cottage. Galena is a lovely cottage and we would not hesitate to renting this cottage in the future. Galena cottage is situated in a rural location and not very far from all local attractions."
    - Mr Curtis, May 2018
"3 couples fitted very easily - plenty of washroom facilities and seating. 'Snug' very useful as an addition to the lounge space. We had to make a request for detailed information and arrival arrangements which should have been sent earlier but when they came they were very full and helpful. Property had been properly described in the publicity literature and met all our expectations (which were high). The location was perfect for exploring some of the delightful Derbyshire villages nearby - well-dressing villages in particular. Literature did refer to internal steps but this is something elderly or less mobile visitors will need to be aware of. Care is needed both inside and to access the back door. Owners were delightful and very helpful in sorting out a problem with the TV."
    - Mrs Thomson, May 2018
"Very well positioned to visit both white and dark peak areas. Cressbrookdale is a great walk from the front door and was filled with flowers - both orchids and cowslips."
    - Mr Fish, June 2018
"Everything done to a very high standard. Lovely area and surroundings. Very helpful when requesting a change over wuth the beds. I highlly recommebd Galena Cottage to all. X"
    - Mrs Macdowall, June 2018
"This cottage was homely, exceptionally clean and very comfortable. We were a party of two couples and two singles and this cottage was just perfect for us. the couples had the rooms with ensuite and the singles the large family bathroom. There was so much space that we didn't actually use the snug. The standard of everything was top rate from the bed linen and towels to the cookware and crockery. I can't tell you how pleased we all were to see plenty of large mugs, in fact there was plenty of everything . The welcome pack and toiletries were another nice touch. we were still finding other nice touches on the day we left, there is nothing more we could wish for. We go on this type of holiday every year , the girls go walking/shopping and the boys cycle.( we are all the wrong side of 60, 70 and one 80) We found plenty to do , nice pubs close by , The Anchor in get to top award from us. The cottage has set a very high bench mark for us. We like to try new places but we have all said we would like to return here, maybe have a winter break."
    - Ms James, July 2018

    - Rachel E, February 2017
"A spacious, clean, comfortable and well-equipped cottage in the small hamlet of Wardlow, meaning easy access in all directions to key tourist attractions / walks in the Peak District. We stayed in Galena Cottage, as a family of 7, comprising of 4 adults, 2 children, and Lily the dog. The owners have put a lot of thought into this cottage. We were greeted with bread, milk, biscuits, & wine, and Lily the dog had beds, drinking bowls and some treats too! The beds were super comfy for a good nights sleep. The kitchen was well equipped. My children were impressed with the Wi-Fi, and smart TV enabling them to access our own Netflix and Amazon accounts for movies. Most rooms also had Bluetooth sound systems so they could play their tunes. They were also able to access DVD's and plenty of games for family entertainment. There are many walks from the house, and the owner has provided OS maps which shows footpaths from Wardlow to Cressbrook Dale. We started on this walk, but with snow underfoot, it was a bit too slippery to do this time, but having read up on it, seems to be a very beautiful walk to do in better weather. A short drive away, is Monsal Head and from here we walked to Ashford in the Water (one way) along the River Wye. The Ashford Arms for Sunday lunch was nice. Other walks were from the Monsal Trail at Millers Dale, completing a walk at Chee Dale; the kids loved the stepping stones in the river. Another walk from LadyBower Reservoir to Winn Hill. All within short driving distance from the house. We have stayed in various Peak District cottages for a number of years now, and I would definitely return to this cottage."

"There are a lot of steps inside the cottage, to get into any room you either have to go up or down anywhere between 1-3 steps, I feel that this may be awkward for somebody who is not very mobile. Having said this the cottage details state that there are steps inside the cottage. Galena is a lovely cottage and we would not hesitate to renting this cottage in the future. "We stayed at Galena cottage with four other members of my partners family. It’s a lovely, well presented cottage. Very clean and comfortable with everything you could need away from home. Comfy beds, very dog friendly and a nice box of goodies for dogs to enjoy. It’s within easy access of lots of beautiful places, we particularly enjoyed walking from Foolow to Eyam and back. There is a very quirky (!) pub within walking distance. The Red Lion at Litton is a couple of miles away and is excellent."

"Fixtures and fittings are first rate in a cottage that has been adapted and updated for holiday hire. In addition to the stunning Peak District scenery, there is a lot to do in the local area based on Wardlow; and there is excellent signposting to local attractions and activities in the landlords 'welcome pack' that is e-mailed 2-4 weeks before arrival and supplemented by many flyers in the cottage. There are numerous excellent hostelries within 15-20 minutes driving but the The Stags Heads ..."
    - Mrs Walke, February 2019
"The cottage was clean, well equipped and very comfortable. Directions from the owners were clear, no problems finding it. Lovely walk from the door one day and board game afternoon the other - perfect. Only slight worry was that we couldn't find a brush etc to sweep up around log burner or front entrance (muddy boots) - so felt bad leaving that for cleaners. Can't wait to return."
