    About this property

With a view to die for and a cosy country cottage vibe, Railway Cottage is sure to delight families all year round.
Railway Cottage is a truly wonderful, two bedroom, detached holiday cottage, set within the gorgeous High Peak, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the owner living next door. Situated in the grounds of a former station house, with its elevated hill-top position, the views from this cottage are quite breathtaking. All on the ground floor, you will find a peaceful living room where you can grab a good book and take a seat on the comfy large leather sofa. At the opposite end of the cottage you’ll find the kitchen/dining room. The well-equipped kitchen boasts lovely units and all the usual mod cons. There are two double bedrooms both offering en-suite facilities, and one being zip and link. Outside the property, make the most of the lovely courtayrd and bask in the sun, or enjoy a meal al fresco.
Railway Cottage is situated in the village of Longcliffe, a crossroads hamlet in the English county of Derbyshire. Directly situated for access to the High Peak Trail, which is a decommissioned, converted railway line, and is now a popular trail for cycling and walking. Enjoy the scenic Peak District National Park and tranquil Carsington Water, with lots of activities and amenities including cycling, walking, water sports, an adventure playground and a waterside restaurant.
Close by is the popular Peak District town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, which has been attracting visitors to the area since the spa was developed in the late 17th century. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent, Matlock offers a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a host of attractions including Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car, which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham, a great place for all the family with its caves, nature trail, water gardens and Owl Maze. Also just a short drive away is the National Tramway Museum at Crich. To the north is the market town of Bakewell and Chatsworth House and Park. Other places to visit nearby include Haddon Hall, Tissington, Ashbourne, Buxton and Keddleston Hall. A little further afield, visit Alton Towers theme park for a great day out for both adults and children. All in all Railway Cottage is an ideal location for a relaxing holiday in a superb location that will not disappoint. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

"Lounge area to small for cottage just a hall way. Bedrooms with no windows makes the rooms very enclosed.Twin beds not made up as a double as requested by phone. Electric fire did not work.Good points very clean, high quality finish, Kitchen very good."

"Had a super weekend break at Railway Cottage. It was exactly as we expected - away from the madding crowds and peaceful. There are no local amenities but we had taken everything we needed with us, so this wasn't a problem for us. For us it was a great place to stay and we would definitely book again if we decided to revisit the area."

"Let down by sitting room but we understand there are plans to remedy. Otherwise cottage clean, comfortable, well appointed. Hosts very friendly and welcoming but not intrusive. Would be happy to return once above plans fulfilled."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our short break at the Railway Cottage. This cottage is of a high standard and the little extras are very much appreciated. There are wonderful views to be seen from the cottage and we were fortunate enough to be able to use the patio on a couple of afternoons. The local amenities aren't too far away but not quite on the doorstep. But this, for us, was not a problem. We loved an evening stroll along the disused railway track that is now a footpath and look forward to exploring the area further on another visit."

"Lovely view from cottage. Welcome pack appreciated. Good standard of accommodation although lounge is small. TV reception in hot weather was variable. Ashbourne nearest location for supermarkets but town gets very congested with traffic."

    Sally ‐ 7 Apr 2018
"The cottage was very homely and comfortable, lovely cosy kitchen. Gorgeous views and very spacious. We loved the fact you could access the High Peak Trail from the garden, which had lovely views and wasn’t too busy. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. We had 2 meals out at pub restaurants in Bonsall and Brassington both were really nice. A good base with lots of attractions nearby. Would definitely return."
