    About this property

After a day spent exploring the Northumberland National Park, return to this lodge and relax in the private hot tub.
These four lodges, each with a hot tub on the decking, offer differently styled accommodation for groups of six or eight. Ideal for holidays or visiting the two large wedding venues nearby in Otterburn. Leafy Run (ref W44043) is a contemporary style lodge with a hot tub, and has a peaceful decked area. Decorated to a very good standard, and slightly smaller than its sister lodge, Squirrel Lodge (ref W44044) is the first lodge on the edge of this small exclusive park. Set over two levels, this quirky and unusual lodge is a lovely retreat for relaxing in, whether you are indulging in the private hot tub or sitting on either of the two verandahs. Leafy Retreat (ref UKC2663) has high spec granite worktops in the kitchen, built-in bedroom furniture and lovely bathrooms. Reiver’s Rest (ref UKC3402) has been completely renovated in 2018, with a private hot tub on the raised south-facing decking and backs onto the woodland in the top corner of the park, with walks from the door. With a fully renovated restaurant on site, the lodges are less than a mile from the centre of the village of Otterburn, on the very edge of the Northumberland National Park. The park is just inside the Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, the largest in Europe, ideal for stargazers and astronomers. The village has a mill shop, and the shop/café sells local produce. A highly acclaimed wedding venue, Le Petit Château is easily accessed only a mile away and guests can enjoy staying in the lodges and having some down time after the wedding. The long wooded drive up to the park sets the scene for your break away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

A perfect base for couples or families to explore the Northumberland National Park, Kielder Forest and observatory, and the Scottish Borders. Situated 16 miles from the border counties, outdoor enthusiasts will love this location which is a favourite with walkers and adventure seekers. Bellingham is close by and has a choice of tea rooms, pubs and village shops. A day trip to Alnwick, with its famous castle, and the Northumberland Heritage Coast, which is peppered with castles and beaches, make for fine days out. Hadrians Wall is only a few miles away and is steeped in history, with Roman forts and museums along the way. Hexham and Rothbury are easily accessible, and have plenty of pubs and shops. Beach 35 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub ¾ mile and restaurant on-site.

"Brilliant stay for my 21st! The lodge was beautifully decorated to a high standard with excellent service! You are slightly overlooked because the lodges are close together, but apart from that it was amazing!"

"Beautiful lodge the whole family had a fabulous break"

"We absolutely loved our holiday to the leafy retreat, we couldn't fault anything at all, the hot tub was cleaned daily, the location is amazing the lodge is lovely and warm, we absolutely would highly recommend anyone that wants to be far out enough to get away from it all but close enough to drive/walk to the closest town that this place is literally perfect. All in all we would give this place a 10 out of 10 and we will be back x"

"Has a great time for 50th birthday weekend"

"We were upgraded on the day of arrival due to the booked cottage not able to accommodate us due to being left in a bad state by the previous occupants. The owner contacted us personally by phone prior to us seting off. The four bedroom cottage was lovely with 2 king sized and 2 double bedrooms. Downsides were the complicated oven that took ages to get to temperature and that some of the surrounding area was rather derilict.Otherwise a lovely cottage great for a base for traveling around the boarders."

"Overall we enjoyed the holiday, a few things could be done to help with the next stay. There was no hoover in the property and with children that could help. No oven gloves and my father in law had to fix the toilet seat as it was really loose. It also said there would be a DVD player so we brought dvds for the kids to watch on an evening and there wasn’t. And lastly we only had the one key as the main keys we should of had we taken by the visitors before us."

"We all enjoyed staying at Leafy retreat! Lovely clean lodge and well equipped for the stay.Had to call the owner when we arrived and he sorted our issue within minutes!Website gives the impression that there is just the four lodges, there are many more but still very quiet and relaxingWould definitely return to stay in one of these lodges"

"Found lots of issues including bathroom door really loose, had to lift it up to close it, could’ve fell off at any time. Cutlery and crockery was dirty, cafetière had coffee left in it. Scruffy old BBQ left by the front door covered in meat from a recent BBQ. Got tub required cleaning. Main bedroom door wouldn’t close. Only had seating for 4 outside, even though it was a 6 berth. Spoke to the contact, was told they would ring back, nobody rang me. Numerous other things, far too many to list.Overall very poor for the amount of money paid for a 4 night stay, could get a cheap holiday abroad for the same price. Booked this to take granddaughter away for a few days."

"The lodge was very clean and comfortable, chocolates left was a lovely touch. However the fact that the lodge next to us had a hen party was horrendous. Really bad, lot's of swearing, despite my young daughter being present, and we're having a full blown argument at 1am in the morning. In addition there were builders behind us doing work on a lodge, so far too much noise. Also, when booking was made asked if roads were wheelchair friendly and was told yes - not through gravel which was all around. They need to decide to make lodges for families or for hen and stag parties."

"We went with an infant (5 months old) and assumed this would be a nice place to relax. It could have been our fault but this is not the place for people coming to relax if you have a child as the lodges are very close together, the other lodges are booked out to stag and hen do parties and the majority of the people going here are up drinking until the early hours. We went when it was very hot, the lodge doesn't have air conditioning and because it has lots of windows it gets very hot, if we opened the windows the noise was even worse. There isn't really anything on site and the nearest supermarket is in Hexham which is 35 minutes drive. Because of the noise we found it too much, we booked from Friday to Friday but left on the Tuesday morning. There are some positives, if you come here and your goal is to have a few drinks at night yourself and are happy with that its a good place, the lodge itself is nicely decorated and the tv is very big, there are some wooded areas around which are nice and Northumberland is very nice with some great places to visit.Maybe it was our fault for night researching properly but if you have kids and are looking at an early night because of that my advice would be not to book this"

"Had a fantastic stay at leafy retreat for a girls weekend ! Such a lovely place. Hot Tub was brilliant and we enjoyed sitting out under the stars on an evening. Everything was very clean and modern. My only suggestion is maybe a book explaining how to work everything in the house and where everything is , also maybe some leaflets of what to do in the local area. Overall a great stay ! Thankyou for a lovely weekend ! Would recommend to everyone : ) !"

"Very Beautiful Lodge really enjoyed it would recommend to anyone"
    SHARON ‐ 17 Apr 2018
"The cottage is lovely and spacious, very new and modern and nice and warm. Hot tub was great and roasting. The cottage is literally a 30 second walk from the Coach House Bar and Restaurant. We ate there twice and it was lovely. I have only marked the score down from a 10 as it was advertised as having wifi which is very important to me when booking a cottage for a week and when we arrived there was none. We did get a small refund to cover data costs but was very inconvenient. Apart from that superb and I would definitely return and recommend highly."
