Boulmer (pronounced Boomer) is a pretty coastal village with very little through traffic. Once the haunt of smugglers, it is one of the true Northumbrian fishing villages which remains virtually untouched by time. Meander along the water’s edge and watch the fishermen return with their daily catch of lobsters, crabs and salmon. The picture perfect seaside village of Alnmouth is less than a 3-mile stroll along the coastline and where there are pubs, shops and tea rooms available. There are two golf courses here too.

A short drive inland brings you to the historic market town of Alnwick where there is a wider array of facilities available. Visitors will enjoy a trip to Alnwick Garden with its grand cascade waterfall and tree house restaurant. Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland and film set for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts, is well worth a visit. The Gap is a superb choice for those seeking stylish self-catering accommodation conveniently situated only a gentle stroll from the seashore of the beautiful Northumbrian coastline which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Wonderfully relaxing stay a ten minute walk to the beach. We walked to the beach daily, walked along the coast then returned to sit by the log burner. The only things that would have made it better would have been a garden that our small dogs couldn't have broken out of (we kept them on a lead in the garden, though larger dogs would be fine) and a dog friendly pub in walking distance. They won't stop us returning though!

The Gap is a wonderful place to stay. It is very roomy, a lovely layout and we especially loved the east facing picture window upstairs from which we watched the sun rise over the sea each morning. The garden was very large, fully enclosed and spot on for children and dogs. We also loved all the little touches, extras and how well stocked with things you might need it was. Easy walk to a lovely quiet beach too.Only thing was the smell of damp in the 2 downstairs bedrooms, but it didn't put us off and we'd certainly like to return.Thank you to the owners for making it so homely. We'll be recommending to all our friends too.
