About this property

Bellingham 5 miles.

This fabulous, Gold Award-winning, detached Georgian coach house, dating back to 1817, is full of character and charm, set in the heart of the North Tyne Valley, just yards from the riverbank and five miles from Bellingham. The property is adjacent to the owner’s old rectory and is the perfect destination for a memorable holiday with friends and family. Superbly renovated to retain many original features, including fireplaces and beautiful exposed beams, this stylish and elegant property, with its antique furnishings and inviting woodburner, provides a warm welcome even in the coldest weather. Offering spacious accommodation, with stunning views over hills and farmland, there is a character sitting room, a separate dining room and a large fitted kitchen, as well as three delightful bedrooms above. The large, enclosed 19th century walled garden to the front is ideal for children and dogs, being almost exclusively for the use of guests. The new star-gazing platform for visitors to view the area's famous 'Dark Skies' is superbly sited in the owners' Old Rectory garden next door; bring your own telescope or just enjoy a panoramic view of the night skies! The Coach House is just a short drive from picturesque Bellingham and located in the Northumberland National Park. It is also within easy reach of Kielder Water and Observatory, Hadrian's Wall, Hexham, the Northumberland Heritage Coast and the Scottish Borders, while salmon, trout and sea trout fishing can be arranged (subject to availability) with the owners, who like to personally welcome visitors. The perfect base for touring the area's many delights! Note: This property can be booked with property Ref 1056223 - Old Church.

Unofficially recognised as the capital of the Tyne Valley, it is a picturesque collection of stone houses nestling on the banks of the North Tyne river. This part of Northumbria is steeped in history and a wide range of historical monuments and buildings pay testament to the region's past. Hadrian's Wall is a short drive and the origins of Bellingham itself can be traced back to Roman times. In addition, the local countryside remains unspoilt and much of it is cared for by the National Trust, offering ample opportunities for walking, riding and other outdoor pursuits. The countryside also acts as home to a variety of wildlife and there are a number of nature reserves from which you can observe animals in their natural habitat.

Access to excellent local butcher in Bellingham and a great fish supplier in Hexam, makes cooking a pleasure. Unfortunately the weather was awful again, but we were happy to be tucked up at the Coach House and the sun arrived as we headed home. Would recommend

In fact, it’s a home from home! Stunning views with an abundance of wildlife. Every room was furnished to a very high standard and with wonderful antique furniture. Plenty of wood to make a fire which added to the ambiance of the house. Amazingly comfortable beds, pillows and duvet’s which ensured a good night’s sleep. So important after a long day walking along Hadrians Wall. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything that you needed. All spotless and clean. Plenty of room for your own things and the bonus of an awesome utility room. The hosts, Anne and Bill were lovely and the welcome food package was a real treat. Anne was always there if you needed anything and gave lots of advice on things to do and places to visit. The Pheasant Inn at Stannesburn (5 minutes up the road) is a must for a fabulous meal. We couldn’t fault anything here and highly recommend The Old Coach House for a great family holiday.

It was obvious that much thought had gone into the creation of this lovely place to stay. It exudes elegance and comfort. There was a lovely welcome pack, which really helpfully had essentials of milk, tea, coffee and wine ! The large garden was wonderful for relaxing and perfect for our dog to race around! It is close to a road which can be busy at times but the delights of the property far outweighed this. Being a Dark Sky area meant we had some fabulous star gazing and appreciated the sounds of owls and night animals. While you do need to walk on the road to join a footpath, the road has good visibility and mostly wide verges. You can also access the river directly onto a private stretch through the wood opposite and down the bank. The host’s welcome was second to none. It feels like Anne takes pleasure in your enjoyment of the Coach House and any issue however minor was sorted immediately. We loved our stay, would definitely stay again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others.
