About this property

This quirky shepherd’s hut is set in the grounds of the owner's home, on the edge of the market town of Haltwhistle, Northumberland. An ideal base for a couple or friends with a lovely interior, you won’t find a more fitting romantic retreat for exploring this historical area. Four steps lead you up to the stable door and into an open plan studio layout with a triple bunk. There’s a kitchenette, TV, comfy seating and a warming woodburner. What could be nicer than relaxing in front of the woodburner and enjoying a drink with your friends or partner after a fun-filled day exploring the area? In a separate room within the hut and completing the accommodation is a shower room. Outside is your own decked area where you can dine alfresco, a lovely place to enjoy breakfast and a coffee, or a cold drink and a meal in the evening sunshine. The centre of Haltwhistle is within easy reach and has an abundance of pubs, restaurants and takeaways, a good alternative if you’re too tired to cook! Well located for touring Hadrians Wall a short drive will take you to the wall with Vindolands, Birdoswald, Cawfields Cragg and Housesteads all waiting to be discovered. Joseph’s Hide is the perfect destination for a Northumberland break. Note: This property is on the same site as refs 961437 and 957741, together they sleep 8.

The small market town of Haltwhistle is a vibrant place, offering a wide range of shops and other amenities. Home to The Black Bull – a proper, old fashioned pub, serving quality food and real ale – the village is a welcoming place to return to following a day of walking, pony trekking or cycling. With the Pennine Way and other great cycle routes and Bridleways running nearby, it's easy to enjoy this stunning scenery, which boasts dramatic castles, surging rivers and beautiful forests. Those interested in the country's history are sure to enjoy a visit to one of the best preserved stretches of Hadrian's Wall, only a mile north of the village, and with an ongoing dig on the site of Vindolanda, it's easy to get in touch with the nation's past. If history isn't your cup of tea, then there is a regular train and bus service in to Newcastle and Carlisle, meaning that you can leave your car behind and enjoy the nightlife the big cities have to offer.

Helpful owner. Quiet location off main road in Haltwhistle. Very well-equipped for the space, Loved the area for history, scenery & walks. And, the weather was better than where we live in Somerset! Would have personally preferred just the double bed without the bunk above, as it felt a bit clausterphobic.

Weather was very cold but the wood stove/ heater was able to warm the place up very fast . Location is brilliant with pubs and COOP all in the town with Hadrians Wall 2 miles max . Actually the facilities were slightly better than the wording in that the TV had a DVD player, On holiday I dont watch the news but save up DVD's so this was a bonus. If I get up to Hadrians Wall again this place will be the first I check

The accommodation with its home from home feel will certainly be visited again. I felt welcomed and relaxed in a beautiful location. Many thanks to the owners kindness and generosity. Perfect!!!
