About this property

Indigo House is a charming 18th century townhouse quietly located on a small European-style square in the heart of Berwick's historic quarter. It is on the Lowry trail, opposite to the small museum now housed in the former guard house, and just across one of the wheelchair-friendly access points to the Town Walls walk. The entrance to the house is via a covered alleyway. A narrow but well-thought out hallway, with a small cloakroom, and lots of hanging space for coats, bags and shoes, leads to a living/dining room with a feature fireplace and flexible seating. It is designed to comfortably fit up to eight, but the table can be reduced to suit a smaller group. The TV does not overwhelm the room, but is strategically placed to be seen from almost anywhere within it. Just across the landing is the small and well-stocked kitchen. A small bistro table will seat 2-4 people who want a quick snack or drink or just to keep the chef company. The kitchen leads through to the courtyard, which has seating for eight and a large luxury hot tub under a canopy. The courtyard has direct access to the street, so that bikes or strollers can be brought in easily and safely parked outside. Leading down from the landing is the basement, which is set up with a large TV and an Xbox as a haven for avid gamers or film aficionados. The daybed will seat three or four side by side, and there is also a low level futon chair, perfect for gaming. This room also holds a large fridge/freezer to accommodate extra food and drink, and the washing machine and dryer. For younger guests, a small room on the first floor has been laid out as a snug, with books, games, and puzzles, as well as a TV. The long narrow desk can be used by children wanting to draw side by side, but will equally well accommodate two or three laptops and their users.. A sofabed completes the furnishings. Finally, the bedrooms. Two on the first floor with king-size beds share a modern shower room, with basin and toilet and a small armchair for comfort while undressing or pampering oneself. The second floor, which holds the two twin rooms, has a small bathroom with a reduced size tub which kids will love. All of the beds have pocket sprung mattresses, mattress toppers, and 100% cotton bedding with a minimum of 200 count sheets. All of the rooms have brick feature fireplaces and oriental rugs. With its central location, a gentle stroll will take in the Maltings live arts centre and being on the Lowry trail, walks are easy to plan. Further on from the trail, Berwick is England’s most northerly town so a few miles further North takes you across the border into Scotland, or 14 miles South finds the beautiful Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve. The Indigo House is a wonderfully characterful terrace, a perfect place for a large family or group to explore historic Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Berwick is England’s most northerly town. Nowadays this small coastal town retains much of its charm, with narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls.. The town offers amenities including shops, cafés, organic food shops, restaurants and pubs, a weekly market and a quirky micro-pub and brewery. Berwick is an ideal base to explore Northumberland’s many castles dotted along the coast and up into the Scottish Borders where there are many stately homes to visit.
