Edlingham is nestled equidistant between Rothbury to the west and the historic market town of Alnwick to the east; both being around 6 miles away. Edlingham has its own medieval castle and 11th-century church in its grounds. This beautiful location is regularly used in TV and film sets; it’s the location of the Hobbit latest promotional film poster and some scenes for the ITV drama series, Beowulf, were also filmed here.
A short drive west brings you to Rothbury, snuggled at the foot of the Simonside and Lordenshaw Hills. It straddles the banks of the trout and salmon-rich River Coquet, where a licence and permit for fishing can be obtained locally. This is a popular destination for cyclists and walkers and is known as the ‘Gateway to the Northumberland National Park, there are many amenities available including tea rooms, pubs, shops and a riverside 18-hole golf course. The National Trust site of Cragside, once home to Lord Armstrong and the first home to be lit by hydro-electricity, sits within 1000 acres and is an interesting visitor attraction only 4 miles west from Quails Nest.
The bustling market town of Alnwick boasts its own dramatic castle, which is home to the Duke of Northumberland (and film academy for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry) has a wide array of facilities, 6 miles east. Visit Alnwick Garden with its spectacular Cascade Waterfall and restaurant incorporated within the largest tree house in Europe.
Quails Nest is an excellent choice for those seeking a tranquil base with lovely rural views and gives easy access to explore the beautiful 20-mile stretch of Heritage coastline designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east and the wild and lonely expanses of the heather-capped Cheviot Hills to the west. Shop 6 miles, pub and restaurant 5 miles. Beach 10½ miles.

"Really nice spot and great for the dogs although the the back gate and access to the front being higher/more secure would have made it much better for summer so the dogs could be unsupervised outside."
    Andy ‐ 8 Nov 2019
"Beautiful cozy cottage , perfect peace and quiet to relax after exploring the area. Would highly recommend."
    Caroline ‐ 4 Nov 2019
"The cottage is in an ideal situation to explore both the countryside and the beaches of Northumberland, with a wonderful view across the moors. The cottage itself was immaculate yet ideal to accommodate our two dogs. We all loved the cosy evenings with the log burner. Added to all this, Rosie is a wonderful, welcoming and helpful host.We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. We will definitely be back."

"A fantastic holiday home very well equipped Lovely setting and lovely owners who were very welcoming."

"Lovely spacious modern accommodation; friendly people."
    Paul ‐ 13 Aug 2019
"The cottage is situated in Edlingham which is equidistance between Alnwick and Rothbury with a very impressive view across the moors from both the garden, lounge and double bedroom. An enclosed secure garden (gated access) for those who bring dogs with them which are definitely welcomed by the property owner who lives next door. Parking for two cars, again behind the gates. Very spacious lounge area with lovely stone flooring (ideal for dogs) and french windows which lead into a lawned area. Both bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms. Plenty of dog friendly beaches along the Northumberland coast within 25 mins with wide expanses of sand, such as Alnmouth and Beadnell. For those who don't have dogs with them there is Alnwick, which is only 6 miles away places to visit include Alnwick Castle and also The Alnwick Garden both very impressive. Further afield is Holy Island as well as Bamburgh Castle. This was a lovely cottage to stay in with everything we needed being provided. We would definitely stay there again."

"We had a very peaceful and relaxing stay in Quails Nest. It is a very well equipped cottage with fantastic views across the valley. Will definitely be booking another stay soon."

"One of the best holiday cottages I have stayed in! Quail's nest is spotlessly clean and well equipped. Great thought and attention has gone in to establishing the new property for guests and it is evident that items have been purchased for the purpose of the property and not cobbled together from bits and pieces found along the way. Being all on one level the property is ideal for anyone with limited mobility too. Its location is perfect for exploring the Northumberland coast and national park and there is a huge amount to do in the area being ideally placed between Alnwick and Rothbury. The village of Edlingham does not have a pub or shop but the beautiful castle and church make for a wonderful evening walk and the peace sitting in the garden overlooking the hills is heavenly. All you need to do is plan to pick up things when you are out and about during the day.Rosie is a marvellous host, very welcoming but also happy to leave you to your own devices unless you need/want her. My dogs were welcomed with dog treats and even a 'doggy draw' full of supplies in case you find you have forgotten something. They and I had a fabulous time and I will definitely return to Quails Nest in the near future and recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful get away in a beautiful part of the country."

"A Beautifull cottage, the photo's don't do it justice, it is bigger than it looks and finished to a high standard. Very quiet location with lovely views of the countryside. A new build in 2018."
    Fiona ‐ 2 Jul 2019
"Lovely cottage in a stunning location. Would certainly recommend and even may return soon."
    Olive ‐ 6 Jun 2019
"a beautiful cottage peaceful and quiet and wonderful views would go again"
    Angela ‐ 21 May 2019
"We have just had the most relaxing week whilst staying in this cottage. The atmosphere is brilliant and views are amazing. The owner, Rosie, made us all feel most welcome and her dog Hamish did his own "Meet and Greet" for both us and our two dogs, Lola and Ebony, too."
    Edna ‐ 6 May 2019
"I can't rate local amenities as there aren't any which is stated in the description of the property"
    Joan ‐ 24 Apr 2019
"Great place when you have 3dogs near to forresty and beach"
    Stu ‐ 4 Apr 2019
"Lovely spacious cottage. Good dog walk to castle. Great base to explore Alnwick"
    Hazel ‐ 5 Nov 2018
"My husband and I recently stayed at Quails nest with our 3 dogs. We were surprised to find that all the furniture was new, and to a high specification. The underfloor heating was lovely, and the log burner added to the cosy atmosphere. Both bedrooms had an en suite, with a shower cubicle in one, and a bath in the other. Everything was imacculate, and extremely clean. The only downside was that the Cottage was more remote than we expected. The small village itself did not have any shops, or pubs, so we shopped in Alnwick and Alnmouth."
