Inland, the bustling Georgian town of Cockermouth (7.5 miles) is the birthplace of Wordsworth and has a range of wonderful independent shops, pubs and restaurants. The northern reaches of the Lake District are nearby, with Bassenthwaite Lake (12 miles) and Loweswater (15 miles) providing some stunning views. Local attractions include the Lake District Wildlife Park (10.5 miles), The Lakes Distillery (11 miles) and the stately home of Mirehouse and Gardens (13.5 miles).
