About this property

Old Hall Cottage is situated in the grounds of Heacham Hall, where the fabled Pochahontas lived in the 17th century. This charming coastal cottage offers a spacious, tranquil escape for a weekend or longer stay. Beautifully furnished, it boasts casual country style. Set in an ideal location with beautiful walks nearby and easy access to the county's top golf courses and finest beaches.

Positioned amidst parkland, lakes and pretty woodland, this lovely proportioned cottage is big and beautiful inside and out and is perfect for a group of friends, larger family or couples wanting to stay in a great location close to all that North Norfolk has to offer.

Step inside and you will feel at home immediately. The large welcoming kitchen with Aga, breakfast bar and sofa opens up into a large and more formal dining room, perfect for late suppers where you can share good food, a few bottles of wine and some good conversation. The large sitting room with feature fireplace and log burner leads onto a fabulous conservatory which opens up onto a terrace with large lawned garden, maximising the far reaching views to the parkland beyond.

Although stylish, this is most definitely a home with a big and generous heart and you will adore the space and peace it offers when you retreat at the end of a busy day. There's nothing lovelier than sitting out on the terrace after a busy day exploring, or cosier than snuggling up watching movies after a day stomping the Norfolk coastal path.

Treating yourself to a lazy breakfast in bed whilst watching the children play in the garden through the French doors from the super king size master en suite bedroom is nothing short of wonderful.

With three further king size bedrooms upstairs and a family bathroom, there is plenty of privacy too and with a downstairs twin bedroom, complete with log burning stove and fireplace, this pretty property will excite anyone who stays.

The gorgeous garden is accessed via the terrace at the rear and you can look forward to al fresco dining, romantic sundowners and sunny family picnics sat under the ancient trees, imagining what it was like when Pochahontas lived here. From the beautiful garden you can also access the owners’ private parkland and grounds and enjoy long country walks from your doorstep.

You certainly don’t have to go far in Heacham before you are reminded of its connection with Pocahontas. She’s the centrepiece of the village sign, plus there is a memorial to her in the village church. The Native American chieftain’s daughter was married to John Rolfe, a member of the West Norfolk village’s leading family at the time and a key figure in the early English settlement of America. History has unfortunately refused to let her disappear into obscurity and myths and misconceptions surround her, which have been translated into Disney animation, pageants to paintings. The Rolfes were associated with the village for hundreds of years and were only forced out of their ancestral home of Heacham Hall, the grounds of which Old Hall Cottage sits, in 1902. Village tradition now links Pochahontas with a mulberry tree in Heacham Hall grounds. The original hall burned down in the 1940s and has since been re-built. The local connection is still celebrated through a fishing lake, a Pocahontas pageant and carnivals in Heaham village.
