Guests that stayed at this property said

Most guests found the property to be well-maintained, though there was a mention of dirty fridges upon arrival. This seems to be an isolated incident, as other reviews do not report cleanliness issues.

The location is consistently praised for its tranquillity and proximity to local attractions. The property's setting, with wildlife and ample outdoor space, has been a highlight for many guests.

Guests have found the property to be comfortable and homely, with plenty of space for large groups and a warm atmosphere, especially with the log fire. However, a suggestion for additional heating in the dining room indicates room for improvement.

The facilities, including a well-equipped kitchen, tennis courts, and a table tennis room, are highly appreciated. There was a minor issue with an oven, but the housekeeper's prompt assistance mitigated the inconvenience.

The welcome hamper and the housekeeper's responsiveness to guests' needs are frequently mentioned, reflecting a high level of thoughtfulness. While gifts are appreciated, they are a kind gesture and not a guaranteed amenity.

About this property

This fine house stands in its own parkland near North Tuddenham. The poet William Cowper stayed in the original rectory, but the present building dates from 1852. It has been refurbished to provide a holiday retreat for up to 14 guests.

The Old Rectory in Norfolk is a luxury self catering holiday home which stands in its own parkland next to the church surrounded by open countryside, a mile from North Tuddenham. The original rectory dated from the 16th century and the poet William Cowper stayed here when he first came to Norfolk. It was replaced in 1852 by Rev Barry, younger brother of the architect of the Houses of Parliament, who designed it himself. The holiday home has been refurbished to provide a luxury self catering venue for family gatherings. It is easily accessed from the A47, half a mile away.

The Old Rectory is set in idyllic surroundings with grounds covering 12.5 acres. There are large areas of lawn interspersed with mature shrubs and trees. The grounds also include a west facing terrace, ideal for summer barbecues, a pond (this has been fenced making it childproof), and a children's football area with two goals. The Old Rectory is an ideal outdoor holiday break with its own wood: a pathway marked by an avenue of yew trees which leads to clearings planted with bluebells, foxgloves and primroses and ideal picnic spots.

Everything about the Old rectory was stunning. My 8 year old granddaughter asked “is this a mansion?” It certainly seemed like it. The tennis playing was hilarious. No idea who won. The welcome treats were amazing - very generous. We all felt very comfortable there. We were celebrating our Golden Wedding with the whole family aged from 4 - 76. At the end of our stay we all decided we wanted to live in the Old Rectory.
