This charming, quaint cottage is attached to the owners traditional, 17th century Lakeland farmhouse, located in the pretty hamlet of Rusland in a peaceful part of the Lake District. This romantic holiday home is an ideal base for couples wishing to spend time together in this idyllic setting. Decorated and furnished in an attractive, elegant style, with open beams and a spiral staircase, the cottage offers a first floor open plan living room with a woodburning stove, an external door and a modern kitchen and dining area. There is a ground floor bedroom with a king-size double bed, a bathroom and an enclosed courtyard garden, which has an abundance of pretty flowers and plants throughout the year. Guests can also enjoy a stroll around the owners extensive gardens. Being located in the hamlet of Rusland, just six miles from Hawkshead, there are endless lanes and paths to explore, either on foot or on your bike. Why not head out to Grizedale and discover the beautiful routes that wind their way through the forest, and perhaps visit Hawkshead and sample some of the local beer in one of the old inns? Visit Hill Top, where Beatrix Potter lived and hop on the Windermere car ferry to explore the bustling town of Bowness-on-Windermere. Crosslands is a small hamlet in the Rusland Valley, just a couple of miles from the Grizedale Visitor Centre and six miles from the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District National Park. There is superb walking, cycling and mountain biking available in the area, and most trails will lead to the beautiful Grizedale Forest. we received a warm welcome from Gay & Graham + scones and Jam !. The cottage was immaculate and so well equipped with a very comfortable bed . Lovely views from the living room irrespective of what the weather chose to do. a perfect cottage hideaway for any time of the year.

We have now stayed at the Shippen twice and I'm sure we will return again. Its a lovely cottage with great character and really friendly hosts who kept us topped up with logs for the wood burner. Its a great place to stay whatever the weather as the surrounding countryside is gorgeous and the cottage itself is so cosy (and spotlessly clean). Cannot recommend this enough, if you can't decide between this place and somewhere else, choose here!

Stayed here for the Christmas Week and had a magical time. Cottage is very cosy ( log burner is fab), with a very comfortable bed. The property is just perfect. The garden is fully fenced so our pup could go out in there unattended. Beautiful views from the living room. A stones throw from grizedale forest where we spent heaps of time looking for sculptures. Lovely walks from the front door.
