About this property

Situated amongst the rolling hills of the Longsleddale Valley, this

one bedroom apartment is ideal for couples looking for a romantic

getaway at any time of the year.

The hamlet of Garnett Bridge is located on the banks of the River Sprint, at the foot of the Longsleddale Valley and is made up mostly of the former Bobbin Mill and mill workers cottages.

The valley exudes peace and tranquillity with walks straight from the door on Banninsdale and Potter Fell, or a more gentle walk to the valley top, Sadgill.

For the more energetic, a walk over the fell top brings you to Haweswater, where the famous submerged village of Mardale could be seen by visitors during the droughts of 1984 and 1995.

Kendal, 4 miles away, or Windermere, 8 miles have a wealth of shops, bars, restaurants and numerous attractions to keep the whole family entertained and the Yorkshire Dales National Park is within easy reach, making this an ideal base from which to explore the area.

Set amidst 24 acres of secluded hill land in the unspoilt Longsleddale Valley, Cocks Close is a small development consisting of a Farmhouse, 3 chalets and 4 apartments converted from a former Bobbin Mill.

The grounds include half a mile of private river where trout and salmon fishing can be enjoyed in season and otters can regularly be spotted, along with other wildlife including herons, buzzards and pheasants.

There are 3 golf courses within a few miles of Cocks Close so the best of both worlds can be enjoyed, a get away from it all holiday or fishing, golfing and walking for the more active.

I was very excited when booking the accommodation but no matter how hard I try or how generous I am it is impossible to give anything more than two stars. To start with the positives; * it is in an excellent rural location. It is possible to walk out he door, up a path and wonder over fields and along the stream. *Secondly their are plenty of towels. Sadly this is it, a star for each. On the down side... *Despite the website I booked through stating all electric was included, when arriving I was greeted with a note demanding money for electric, as apparently electric is not included!?! * The directions received with the confirmation email are either wrong or extremely confusing, not a good start * You do not have access until 3.00pm, which is a massive inconvenience if like me you like to make he most of your holiday and arrive early to get a day worth of sightseeing. It meant I was driving around with a car full of stuff all day. * When we arrived we happened by chance to bump into the housekeeper. She was very friendly and gave us some tips. If we hadn't have happened to meet her, nobody comes to meet and greet or welcome you to the property. * All of the tourist information leaflets provided are last years so the times for boat tours, train rides etc are incorrect. * No detailed local information is provided. We were only given "shop 2 miles" " pub 3 miles" no directions, names of places etc were given. Without Internet it was not possible to do any research or get any information. We just had to drive around and hope for the best * No phone signal or Internet. Although this didn't bother me too much, except for lack of information as mentioned above, you should be aware you can not use your phone or access the Internet * No soap on the bathroom sink. Sounds minor but a simple thing can make a difference * The cottage is very damp an mouldy. The smell of damp is overwhelming, although I couldn't see much mould the smell is intense. I would be concerned for anyone with breathing problems. * Cobwebs galore, if you don't mind looking at masses of dusty cobwebs. * The patio area is exaggerated, their is a table and hairs right by the front door next to where you park he cars. Do not expect to be sitting in a rolling field. Overall it saddens me to not give this property more as it has the potential to be quite nice, however, in he many points mentioned above it is generous to even give it 2 stars. Having to pay extra for electric despite being advertised as included has really got my back up!
