About this property

This superb end-terrace cottage, formerly the grain store for the original neighbouring farm, has been converted into a stylish and extremely comfortable cottage located just outside the “auld grey town” of Kendal. This lovely cottage makes an ideal base for exploring the heart of the Lake District. From the well-equipped kitchen, where you can prepare sumptuous meals, adjourn to the bright and airy sitting room, which has French doors opening out onto a lovely patio area, or why not relax with a refreshing drink and dine alfresco? With three comfortable bedrooms, two king-size doubles on the first floor and a family room with a king-size double and a single on the second floor, the cottage is perfect for a family holiday. The two family bathrooms, one on the first floor and one on the second have been thoughtfully equipped to ensure your stay is perfect. Outside, there is an enclosed courtyard, a patio and a lawn, so everyone should be able to find a quiet corner to sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. This lovely cottage has the benefit of being close to the market town of Kendal, with its interesting quaint shops and restaurants hidden down ginnels and yards, and is also right on the edge of the Lake District National Park with Lake Windermere just fifteen minutes’ drive away. The popular towns of Ambleside and Windermere are within easy reach and for a great day out in the refreshing Cumbrian air, and why not lace up your walking boots and hike up the Kentmere Valley? After a bracing walk up this enchanting valley you can taste the delights in one of the excellent pubs or enjoy a glass of local Hawkshead Brewery ale in the Beer Hall at Staveley. This valley is also a favourite for mountain bikers and this lovely cottage has ample storage for bikes and drying facilities for wet gear. As the magic of Cumbria weaves its way into your heart, you will be enchanted by this fascinating area, and only leave wishing you were staying longer!

An historic Lakeland town with a fine reputation for shopping, Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent and is known as the Southern Gateway to the Lakes. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th Century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Visit The Abbot Hall Art Gallery, its regular collection holding portraits by Kendal born George Romney and works by Turner and Ruskin, with other exhibitions through its links with the Tate.

    Super comfortable beds .

It had everything we needed and we had a wonderful week away. The only slight issue was that the house was slightly cobwebby but was otherwise very clean and well presented. It felt like the house was cleaned then left for us to arrive and, in the meantime, some spiders moved into the corners of the rooms but that's to be expected in old houses.

Kitchen has everything we need. Water pressure and temperature in all bathroom are great. Overall we enjoy our stay. The heaters in ground floor made a loud noise after the central heating being turn on after few hours. There were high pitch "beeps" from ground floor at 3am and 3:30am on the first night. It woke everyone in the house. However, there was nothing unusual identified.
