Hawkshead is one of the region s most attractive villages with a choice of welcoming pubs and several interesting National Trust properties. Lake Windermere lies just a five-mile drive to the east of the property along a country road which passes through the hamlet of Near Sawrey where visitors will find Hill Top the former home of Beatrix Potter. Less than five miles to the west of the property Coniston Water offers a range of water sports from it boating centre or perhaps enjoy a Swallows and Amazons boat trip out to Peel Island said to be the inspiration for Wild Cat Island in Arthur Ransome s celebrated novel.
