The Lakeshore, a perfect place for lazy picnics, is easily accessible on foot across the fields in less than 10 minutes. There are many low level walks available from the doorstep of this Coniston cottage and for those who are more ambitious in your group, the cottage lies at the bottom of the Old Man of Coniston, ideal for a more energetic walk. The extensive Grizedale Forest is a great place for mountain biking, with extensive trails through the trees. The small hamlet of Torver is less than a mile away and has a couple of excellent pubs serving food. The bustling village of Coniston is only two miles down the road and from here you can participate in lots of water based activities. The pretty village of Hawkshead is just a 10 minute drive away, with archways leading to quaint squares with higgledy-piggledy houses scattered around. There are also some specialist, individual shops selling delicious jams, chutneys and cakes, interesting art galleries and, of course, the Beatrix Potter Gallery. For water sports enthusiasts the quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing.
