    About this property

This lovely spacious and contemporary second floor apartment is situated above a retail store in the heart of the popular town of Ambleside within the magnificent Lake District National Park. This welcoming apartment is an ideal base for four people wishing to explore this wonderful part of Cumbria. Inside there is a contemporary kitchen, dining area and spacious sitting room where a window seat allows for people watching below, whilst from the rear of the property you can enjoy views across Ambleside to Wansfell. Completing the accommodation is a bathroom, double bedroom and twin bedroom. Although you are in the centre of Ambleside, just a short walk from High Ridge takes you to the pretty Rothay Park with superb views across the River Rothay to Loughrigg. Why not walk along the valley to the pretty hamlet of Rydal and Rydal Mount, the home of William Wordsworth? From here you can pick up the 'coffin trail’ and follow this ancient route along to Grasmere and then return via Loughrigg back to High Ridge to enjoy a delicious evening meal in one of the many excellent restaurants that can be found in Ambleside. At any time of year, a cruise from Waterhead up Lake Windermere on the Windermere Steamer is a delightful way to appreciate this magnificent landscape. Stop off at Bowness-on-Windermere or continue down to Lakeside and visit the Aquarium of the Lakes. Whatever your reason to visit this charming base, you will appreciate the handy location with shops and restaurants on the doorstep surrounded by fells and lakes to explore.

Ambleside is situated at the northern tip of Lake Windermere offering a great base to explore the area. "This made relaxing together as a family in the evening more difficult and the wifi didn't reach the kitchen. The property would also benefit from being signposted outside, as I had to walk down a few drives of different names to discover where the property was. In the positive, they have made a good use of space and the location is great."

"The property is very well placed in Ambleside at the top of the high street. It's the second floor in a building that houses the Co-op on the ground. It has a unique layout which gives it character. The property is slightly split-level having a small flight of stairs from the entrance/kitchen/bathroom level, up to the dining area/living room/bedroom level. The living room and bedrooms are extremely spacious. The living room has a large bay window which I enjoyed sitting in to watch the street life below. The kitchen feels modern, and the velux windows give it plenty of light. It has a small bar area for two to sit at. The kitchen facilities and utensils are plentiful. The bathroom also feels modern, there's a wash basin and bath and shower. Plenty of bath towels were provided. A small cloakroom area allows for coats and shoes. The tv has good reception and the wifi extends throughout the property. The property is very clean. We didn't hear any noise from the shop or it's morning deliveries; there was some noise from road traffic but nothing untoward. Parking is plentiful, the permit covers the whole of the Millans Park street which is immediately to the rear and is a long street. The decor is good but a fresh coat of paint wouldn't go amiss in some places. The blinds in the spare room aren't affective at keeping out the morning sun. It wasn't immediately obvious which gated entrance led to the property as there was no signage (except for #1 Redbanks next door). The shower feels "average", although probably depends on what you have at home :) Overall we were pleased and happy we got value for money."

Secondly, we bought food with us so we did not have to pay for meals out. We were unable to cook any of the food and when we emailed we were ignored."

" The cottage itself is in need of some tlc i.e. stained walls, fridge door not closing properly, light bulbs not working, no outside light and very squeaky slightly uncomfortable double bed "
    Mrs Bhana ‐ 1 Jul 2021
" It was well equipped and very cosy. Although it rained at times and couldn't go out, the apartment had good WiFi and dvds which was a nice touch. Although other reviews said the double bed wasn't comfortable, I found it very comfortable! I would defunitely recommend! "
    Miss Thompson ‐ 1 Jul 2021
" The property was light and airy, clean, and the living room window was a great place for people watching! My only suggestion to improve it would be to have WiFi available, but this is only a small thing. "

" Property was well equipped and very clean. Perfect for exploring the lakes! "
    Mr Webster ‐ 1 Jul 2021
" Our only suggestion would be (also mentioned several times in the guest book) would be to replace the double bed which is so uncomfortable and noisy (because of metal frame, it squeaks) and the ice box in the fridge has been broken for a while now. We used the twin room which was very comfortable. We enjoyed staying here and would happily use High Ridge again. "

"This is in a really central location (Ambleside) which is excellent for getting to most parts of the Lake District - and for use, for going to concerts in the Lake District Summer Music Festival. Very good facilities: well-appointed and good-sized kitchen; bathroom a bit tiny but fine, with good hot water; comfy beds and good duvets etc. Quiet, considering it's on a main street and above the Co-op. Owner was helpful with initial queries."
    Mrs Daunt
" Excellent facilities, though we found the fridge a bit small and the icebox got iced up very quickly and 2 coffee making filters (rather than one) would have been useful. Otherwise, excellent kitchen and cooking facilities and everywhere very clean. We would certainly use this again. Previous comments have included references to thin towels - they were fine and not thin and to the single beds being flimsy, but they were fine too. Having a car parking permit was very useful. Thanks for a good stay. The owner was helpful when we rang for advice. "

" 30 every morning the coop.has it's delivery of whatever, the noise is terrible and anybody staying in the double room at the back is woken up, as we were everyday. Apart from that brilliant, great facilities and a good position for everything, had a lovely holiday "
    Mrs Whittingham
" Only thing was the bed as my husband is 6ft 2 a double not quite big enough. It would accommodate a king size bed as the room is spacious and the living room has some paint flaking from the wall, just needs a lick of paint. Apart from that a lovely spacious apartment. "

" Good for local transport to access the fells. However there are some issues with the property that appear , from comments already posted , not to have been addressed: outside lights not working, problem with door on kitchen cupboard, light bulbs in the bathroom that have not been replaced. We expected some noise due to the location in central Ambleside however were kept awake several nights until around 2.30 am by people in the street shouting and singing. Also intruder alarms from local businesses were activated several times during the night/early morning. The property is advertised with one twin-bedroom. There is a double bedroom also but no bedding is supplied for this. "

" However, there are a few things which I should perhaps bring to your attention. Would you please forward this message to owner of High Ridge, Ambleside (ref. 933760):- * In both of the single beds, several of the wooden slats across the bottom of the frame (on which the mattress rests) are completely missing. This naturally makes the beds rather less secure and comfortable than they should be. * The remote control for the DVD player is missing. It is still possible to play DVDs, but without a remote it is not possible to access the extra features on them, such as episode selection, scene selection, subtitles, etc. A couple of other things are less important: * A light bulb in the bathroom needs replacing. * As you already know, a hinge on one of the kitchen cupboards still needs to be replaced. And I should like to make a couple of suggestions, which could help to make High Ridge even better: * A non-slip rubber mat for the bath when the shower is being used. (At the moment, the bath gets very slippery with soapy water from the shower. * A shaver point by the mirror in the bathroom. But, as I have said, we enjoyed our stay, and hope to return. Regards. Roger Harris. "

"We spent a week here in July and were really pleased with it, would definitely return. Surprisingly enough, despite what it says here on Trip Advisor, the apartment has two bedrooms, one double and one single and there is plenty of room. It seems to have been recently refurbished. Although it is on the second floor you only have to climb one flight of steps to access the front door due to the way the land lies, although those steps are a fire escape. There are also half a dozen steps leading from the kitchen and bathroom to the rest of the rooms. It is well furnished and furbished, and the beds are lovely and comfy. The main problem for us was that there is no Wi-Fi."
