The village of Penruddock is spread out amongst countryside and scenery, and is made up of a number of farm dwellings, Lakeland homes and two churches. Penruddock originated in Celtic times, with the name derived from Pen, a Celtic name for 'hill' and 'rhuddawc' meaning red in Welsh to reflect the reddish brown colour of the soil found in the area. Nearby, the town of Keswick, north of the Lake District, has plenty to offer, boasting numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as miniature golf, parks, the Theatre by the Lake, a cinema and the lake.
