Outside there is a large cottage garden with patio, ideal for a morning coffee or a welcome glass of something stronger after your day’s activities. Walkers and cyclists are spoilt for choice in this area. There is a lovely Pub roughly 1 mile down the road, The Sportman Inn.In the summer months the village of Greystoke, just three miles away has a 13th century castle, cyclist’s cafe, the Boot and Shoe pub and a seasonal outdoor heated swimming pool with cafe and play area. Close by, Ullswater is a fabulous day out with its incredible scenery and bustling centre Pooley Bridge. Why not enjoy water activities such as the lake cruises on the steamers that run between Glenridding, Howtown and Pooley Bridge? Keen hikers can also enjoy the demanding Hellvellyn, the Lakeland’s highest mountain, from the lower tip of the lake at Glenridding, or enjoy a guided walk. You can also walk to Aira Falls from here and see the waterfalls in ancient woodland and landscaped gardens. Set in a secluded position in the northern Lake District, the charming village of Penruddock is located between Keswick and Penrith, and is just four miles from Ullswater. This little town is spread across rolling countryside and is composed of many old farmsteads, traditional workmen's cottages and two churches. Penruddock itself offers easy access to the surrounding Cumbrian countryside and the southern Lakes, Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall are all within easy driving distance.
