    About this property

Relax infront of the wood burner or have a BBQ in the large garden, this 18th-century property is perfect for a family summer holiday, or a cosy winter getaway.
Sitting prominently in the heart of the Duddon Valley, this period cottage has been located on a working farm since 1765, and enjoys beautiful views across to Caw and Stickle Pike. S37542 is criss-crossed with footpaths and bridleways offering a gateway to the local fells, including Dow Crag and the Coniston mountains. Attached to the owners’ home, S37542 is part of an original 18th-century farmhouse which has smaller outbuildings, including an original Victorian outhouse. It is surrounded by 20 acres of prime grazing land encompassing a quarter of a mile stretch of the River Duddon, this spate river is crossed by a series of ancient stepping stones along its length. During the lambing season and winter months, Herdwick sheep occupy the associated farmland prior to release onto the upper fells, leaving the owners small flock of Ryeland sheep as permanent residents of the farm, keeping the hens company. Secluded, peaceful and with breathtaking views, S37542 offers the perfect location for the Lake District visitor looking for inspiration and relaxation.

"A great modern property on a working farm in a quiet valley. Great walking opportunities and a very nice pub 2 miles away.Very dog friendly with its own enclosed garden.Friendly property owners are immediately available for any problems but are not intrusive."

"The cottage was perfect in every way. My husband and I were looking for somewhere we could get away from it all and that is exactly what we found at S37542. The cottage was very comfortable and Robin was very friendly and helpful. There are also lots of fabulous and varied walks in the area. The West lakes are beautiful and we can't wait to go back. Hopefully we will be able to stay at S37542 again."

"This is our second visit to S37542 and it doesn’t disappoint. We love the location and the cottage is always clean and well equipped. Our dog settles really well, and enjoys the garden. We love the surroundings and thoroughly enjoy and welcome the opportunity to get closer to the animals on the farm."

"S37542 is a well equipped cottage with everything you need and more plus there are rare breed animals and fabulous wildlife in abundance on site, we even had our own roosting swallows staying with us in the porch area and the enclosed garden was perfect for our pooches. Located in the Duddon Valley area of the Western Lakes close to Eskdale, it's a stunning location but is some distance to main shops and amenities which we wanted, so really suited us. Robin the owner was so helpful and knowledgeableand she works really hard managing the farm and property to a high standard. We did several of her suggested days out. There is a large ordnance survey map posted in the utility which was really useful plus plenty of guide books and maps available. If you want a peaceful retreat in unspoilt spectacular countryside, far from the madding crowds S37542 is perfect."

"Perfect location for a restful holiday. Walks directly from the door. Idyllic scenery.Hosts were pleasant, friendly and very helpful. Good touches in the cottage for example a large scale map on the wall marked with routes and pubs! Cottage was exceptionally clean and comfortable. Hosts have a working farm and my highlight was seeing two day old piglets and walking the baby goats. Welcome pack came in very handy - there were even treats for the dog! Our dog was made very welcome and as well as the fully enclosed garden there was a large field available where he could run around. Highly recommended."

"This was an immaculate cottage with a wonderful blend of historic and modern features. Everything you could need was provided from, detailed local information to a high class tin opener and there was cupboard space for us to put our food and things. The garden was lovely and the wild birds amazing. Robin was very helpful and would have been happy to provide anything else we required. I really liked the way she had thought about the storage and drying of wet walking kit. It was a delight to meet her and to stay in her cottage. We will be returning to cycle round the area and she has been so good as to suggest safe storage for our electric cycles."

"A lovely cottage in a beautiful part of the world. The owners, Robyn and Andrew could not have been more helpful on arrival and throughout our stay. We look forward to staying at S37542 again."

"Safe to say that S37542 is one of the best holiday cottages we’ve ever stayed in! The owners deserve a lot of credit for making it a very comfortable, cosy and welcoming place to stay. We’ll definitely be back!"

"S37542 was comfortable and clean. The surrounding area was beautiful with walks on the doorstep, and a lovely pub 2 miles down the road. This is perfect for someone wanting to relax and get away from the main tourist areas, we did a few local walks, also Eskdale and Dalegarth waterfalls which also has a miniature railway and a local pub for a drink afterwards is a must. Broughton in Furness also has a couple of pubs ( short drive) one of which the Black ...... inn (this site won't let me put the rest of it's name in!!!) we had lunch in and was excellent food, also there is a general store and butchers. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our week and would definitely go back."

"S37542 is nicely located in the Duddon valley which is beautiful and a relatively quiet part of the Lake District, handy for Eskdale, Wasdale and Coniston as well as the Cumbrian coastline. Facilities were excellent and our hosts Robin and Andrew were very friendly and accommodating. It is also very dog friendly with public footpaths literally on the doorstep !"
    Helen ‐ 12 May 2018
"What a gem! Robin and Andrew were perfect hosts. We couldn't fault anything. The cottage was immaculate and so tastefully furnished. Robin took time to show us where to visit/walks on a map (in the cottage) and spent some of her very busy day showing us around the farm - introducing us to all of their wonderfully cared for livestock. We would definately come here again!Robin and Andrew - you are a true inspiration. So pleased to have met you both."
    David ‐ 8 May 2018
"Everything excellent would go again no problem !"
