This extremely comfortable cottage oozes charm and character, with beams and even a safe in the sitting room, and is ideal for a large family or group of friends wishing to explore this area. It’s comfortably presented with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sitting room with woodburning stove and a kitchen with dining area. Outside, there is a patio and garden with private seven seater hot tub, and located in the adjoining barn is a games room, equipped with a table tennis table, pool table and air hockey table. Just 1.3 miles away is the village of Waberthwaite, with the Brown Cow Inn and specialist butcher selling traditional Cumberland sausages. Heading south to Bootle you will find a shingle beach, which eventually reaches Silecroft with its award-winning beach and a 9-hole links golf course. Silecroft also has a trekking centre which specialises in coastal gallops, whilst the Cumbrian Heavy Horses are based nearby. From Bootle you can jump on board the branch line and travel by train to Ravenglass from where you can join the Lil Ratty, The Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway, and explore the beautiful Eskdale Valley with views of the surrounding mountains and fells, including Scafell. This lovely cottage is a great base for a wonderful Lake District holiday at any time of the year.

The small hamlet of Waberthwaite is situated on the West Coast of Cumbria within the Lake District National Park. Waberthwaite has a scattering of cottages, farm dwellings and a traditional village pub. The local skyline is dominated by the towering peaks of Scafell, Great Gable, Hard Knott, Harter Fell and Muncaster Fell, whilst nearby are the attractions of Muncaster Castle and the Ravenglass to Eskdale miniature railway.

"We booked this cottage for a long weekend to celebrate my mother in law's birthday. Having stayed in holiday cottages before it's often a chance as to whether the pictures give you a good impression of what you are getting or not. In this case they just don't do the cottage justice. There is everything that you could possibly need. I think there was enough cutlery that even if we hadn't put the dishwasher on all weekend we still wouldn't have run out and the second fridge freezer in the games room is a fantastic idea. The games room with pool table, table tennis, air hockey, darts, books, board games and DVD's is ideal for children young and old and of coarse Dad! We had a wonderful weekend Kath the owner couldn't have been more helpful, we will certainly be returning."

We were greeted with a little gift of a hamper which was a nice touch and very much appreciated, the cottage was clean and cosy. Beds were lovely and comfortable and made up beautifully. Hot tub with an amazing view was so inviting too. Just what me and my family needed, Never been so relaxed :)"

"This was a wonderful cottage where the attention to detail was exceptional. The owners had thought of everything that you possibly need to make this a great holiday. The games room was a huge hit with enough board games to keep everyone happy on the wettest afternoon. The pool table and table tennis was also much appreciated. Everyone loved the hot tub, and it was great that coloured towels were supplied for use out of doors. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, and there was also a gas fired BBQ for sunny evenings. This was a lovely cottage away from the very busy lakes area (Windermere) - very well placed for the coast (and there are some lovely sandy beaches) and very convenient for scafell pike. We would definitely want to go back to this cottage. This was a great cottage for a group of friends or extended family group."
Mrs Debra Whittington, Doncaster, South Yorkshire
"An absolutely beautiful place, which really did have everything you could possibly need. The hot tub was wonderful with beautiful views of the countryside while relaxing. The kids loved the games room which was so well equipped. A lovely place and lovely people. Hope to be back again soon."

"Absolutely amazing weekend at this beautiful cottage, we hardly left the cottage all weekend and had so much fun with all of the games and of course the hot tub, which had stunning views of the Lake District and the coast. We felt like we were the only people for miles, it was lovely and private and lots of personal touches in the cottage itself which is even more amazing than the pictures! Very, very high standard, I would recommend to anyone, and would definitely stay again! Special thank you to the owners for making us feel so welcome and and at home! "
    Mrs Dorothy Molloy, Glasgow, Stirlingshire
"We liked every thing. The games room and hot tub were big assets for the children and adults."

"10 of us booked to stay here for a long weekend in May and we all had an amazing time. Thankfully the weather was great, so we made good use of the hot tub. It was great to relax in the hot tub and admire the fantastic views. The cottage was very clean, with a lot of extra facilities for the BBQ etc. The owners were always on hand to sort any issues we had (which was our fault as we knocked the wrong button on the hot tub!) Kath and Jim are lovely, friendly people and we all look forward to seeing them again when we book our next weekend away!"
Mr John Smith, Bury, Greater Manchester
"The owners had thought of everything and provided all that we could possibly need and more. The cottage was great and full of activities. We had a really good stay. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone."

"Spacious, quiet, well equipped and comfortable cottage set in its own grounds with fabulous view of the Irish Sea to the front and with lovely fells to the rear. The very friendly lovely owners have tried to provide everything you would need to have a great holiday there. We had such a good time there that we plan to return next year. I would highly recommend this cottage for family or friends to get together and have fun or just chill out."

"We went for a long weekend as a group of 9 friends and we weren't disappointed. This cottage has everything. The Hot tub and games room were great for socializing and the dining table was lovely for everyone to eat together. There was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space and the cottage was so well equipped I can't even list everything. We took kitchen gadgets but found that everything was already there including a slow cooker. We had a brief problem with the heating system and ..."

The kitchen had more equipment than my own :) We made the most of the hot tub and games room every single day. It was all just perfect with some pre ordered sunshine also. - Ms Woodward, November 2017
"The games room was a big hit with everyone and having the added benefit of an extra fridge and freezer in there too was fantastic for keeping drinks cold and at hand. The log burner was great for the cold nights with plenty of wood to hand. The hot tub was a great added extra to our relaxing break, the only thing this could have benefited from would have been a canopy over the top so could use when it was raining, but overall the whole experience of this cottage was fantastic and my family cannot wait to book again and return. Well done to our host Kath we had an amazing time."

"Once again we couldn't have picked a better cottage for our week away with family. (6 adults, 2 teenagers, 1 under 5 and 1 under 2) This cottage is perfect for any type of group. You have plenty of space both indoor and out. Near bank Cottage is still by far the best cottage I have stayed at for the following reasons, extremely well equipped, from a kitchen full of everything you need, lots of fridge and freezer space and separate wine cooler :) with the added bonus of the internal games room and hot tub. The owners Kath and Jim are such fantastic hosts. We are already trying to find space in the calendar availability to go again :) Thanks again Kath for making our week away so enjoyable."

"Every year, my entire family go on the hunt for a cottage just like this. This year we were thrilled when we arrived at Near Bank Cottage. This cottage surpassed all expectations. The owner greeted us on our arrival and showed us round. On the dining table was a basket of wines and shortbread. The cottage was well supplied with salt, pepper, soap, toilet paper, hot tub towels and regular towels. Also an incredible array of kitchen utensils pots, pans, and crockery. The cottage and grounds where immaculately presented, and the quality of everything from the linens to the fixtures and fittings where superb. Not only was there Wi-Fi but there was a Wi-Fi extender, TVs with DVD players, Chrome Casts, piles of DVDs and board games. The view is phenomenal especially from the hot tub. To sum up this cottage was amazing. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone. If you found this review helpful please hit the thumbs up button bellow."

"Just returned from a week celebrating my 50th Birthday with family (all adults). The cottage is beautiful and really exceeded my expectations. The owners have thought of everything. The games room is very large and a great place to spend time socialising. The hot tub was amazing, beautiful to relax and enjoy the view over the Irish Sea. The living area is great, very cosy for just relaxing in front of the log burning fire. The cottage has been modernised and the decor is lovely. The kitchen area is fully stocked up with everything you need to cook meals for all. We were blessed with lovely weather and the sun shone on the outside sitting areas all day. There are lots of different sitting areas inside and out, so if you fancy a little quiet time you have lots of choice. Kath (one of the owners) is extremely welcoming and friendly. I would definitely recommend a stay here. Everyone in our party fully enjoyed their stay here and we will return. Thanks for you hospitality Kath."
