    About this property

Enjoy this coastal location from S80565 or get out and explore the western fells of the Lake District National Park.
S80565 is situated in the village of Bootle on a working farm, in western Cumbria, just 1 mile from the beach. It was originally used to garage the horse drawn coach, and the owner lives next door, and even had a piggery on the side! It’s now been converted into the lovely, detached cottage it is today and in front of S80565 is a rectory. Built in 1839 on the site of a previous Tudor building which, being constructed of wood, burnt down leaving only the cellars intact, which are still in use today. Coniston Water, the quieter western fells of the Lake District, can be accessed for fabulous walking opportunities for all abilities. Golf is available locally at Seascale and Silecroft, and the nearest train station is at Bootle itself, only a 15-minute walk away with links to both Carlisle in the north and Lancaster in the south, so leave the car at home and head out for the day. Ravenglass, home of the narrow gauge railway fondly known as ’La’al Ratty’ is just 8 miles away and provides fun for all ages along the 7-mile stretch of railway line passing through stunning scenery. There are two riding stables within 10 miles. Beach 1 mile. Shop 200 yards, pub serving food 5 miles.

Living room: With wood burner, 32" Freeview TV and beams.
Kitchen/dining room: With electric oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this cottage and it was just brilliant for the dogs. You are a bit out on a limb in regards to accessing the lakes but for us it was just perfect as we were looking for a rest. For the dogs the beach was amazing and the gardens at the cottage were brilliant for them and totally safe. There is no chance of them getting onto the road. We loved our time there and would definately go back."

"Lovely cottage, good location. Have to travel either direction to eat out. Good base for Scarfell Pike and coastal walks."

"Generally a comfortable cottage and the owners (next door) were helpful and accommodating. The kitchen was well equipped with nice appliances. The conservatory at the back was a nice addition and the view onto the garden at the back was lovely, as was the excellent gas bbq. There were a few issues though. When we arrived the hoover had been abandoned in the middle of the sitting room, and it became clear that more attention needed to be made to cleaning. The stairs were dusty with cobwebs everywhere and the entry carpet smelled of dog pee. The fridge also had not been properly cleaned. The downstairs double bedroom had no storage for clothes at all, so we had to spend the week living out of our suitcase. The upstairs double bedroom in comparison had quite a lot of storage, though the furniture looks like it has come from the re-cycling centre. All the beds were extremely creaky and squeaky and a lot of the pillows were damp and old. Bedding however was clean and good quality. The cafe nearby was excellent and there was a Tesco supermarket about 5 miles away. The location was great for RavensGlass and the western Lake District and for places like Coniston and Skarfell, but not so good for the main lakes as the half hour drive to get there can become tedious if doing it every day. Generally we had a comfortable stay, which could have been much better if the place had some more TLC from the owners."

"S80565 was a huge disappointment in that it was very dirty, in particular the kitchen , and the conservatory, which had hundreds of dead flies in the windowsill and cobwebs everywhere. The lounge contained three armchairs ( cottage sleeps five) and the table and chair legs were dusty and cobwebbed. In addition several mice were seen, and a baking tray left out had mouse droppings in the next day . The owner is obviously aware of the mice as there was a mousetrap in the upstairs bedroom wardrobe. Kitchen was very poorly equipped, lacking basic items like potato masher . Although stated on the website there was no baby stair gate and no outdoor furniture for our use. Lastly , we were not made aware of the owners two dogs who constantly came into the cottage whenever the door was left open , or whined and scratched at the door when closed ."

"Very nice cottage and surroundings. The ground floor and second bedrooms would benefit from wardrobes as although the main bedroom has pleanty of storage the other two have none."

"Had a wonderful time! The cottage was very nice and the hospitality was excellent. My children loved playing in the large gardens and eating fresh strawberries every day. The owner showed my kids the newly hatched ducklings which was a special experience for them. No phone single in the area but excellent wifi within the cottage. Would stay again, would recommend."

"Spent a fantastic week at S80565. Dogs, baby, mum and dad enjoyed meeting more dogs, chickens, pigs, and sheep. Property is ideally situated with beach and forest walks only a short ride away. Afternoon tea at the byre opposite is definitely filling so leave room for it!!"

"Lovely and quiet tucked out of the way behind the old rectory and beside there small holding, where you can purchase seasonal produces, just a great place to wind down, oh and no phone signal so can't get pestered by work etc"
