About this property

Located in the Lake District National Park, in the hamlet of Brandlingill, Tithe Cottage is a generously proportioned 3 bedroomed cottage. Situated in a courtyard setting, Tithe

Cottage (and The Byre which sits adjacent to it) is fully equipped, spacious and provides everything you need for a holiday break. There is a shared outdoor communal garden

space which is easily accessible from the cottage, located close to the stable area.It is set in an orchard area and offers a tranquil space to appreciate the rural peace and quiet of

the surrounding countryside. Please note that the garden area is not directly attached to the holiday cottage.

Tithe Cottage is part of a barn conversion offering a cosy but delightful space with all the usual modern amenities you would expect to find in a self-catering cottage.

The downstairs area gives guests a separate lounge with a kitchen cum dining area suitable to seat 6. There is the added facility of a shower and toilet downstairs.

Upstairs, the 3 bedrooms (1 double and 2 twin) are airy and light along with a main family bathroom.

The cottage offers a great base to explore the Western Lakes with easy access to Cockermouth and Keswick for all your local amenities, cafes and shopping. Bassenthwaite Lake, Buttermere, Loweswater , Derwent Water, Ennerdale and Whinlatter Forest are but a short distance away with the beach towns of St Bees and Silloth, a little further afield. With local wildlife of red squirrels, badgers, deer and birds to appreciate

combined with little light pollution offering the star gazer some great night skies, there is plenty on offer!

So, if you are after a bit of relaxation and want to simply enjoy the beautiful mountain and lakeland scenery or if you are preferring something more adventurous – bagging some of those Wainwrights or cycling the mountain passes or the freedom of open water swimming, paddle boarding/sailing/canoeing then Tithe Cottage offers a wonderful base to do it all.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.

I would happily return to this cottage.

However, for us, there were just a couple of niggling points that I would like to bring to your attention. Firstly, the shower head in the downstairs bathroom is fairly corroded with a constant leak from the shower hose joint. Nothing too serious obviously, but it somewhat spoiled the overall feel of what is a nice bathroom. On the up side, the water pressure for the shower is excellent so it was most enjoyable. Secondly, we were slightly disappointed with the communal area. The way it was portrayed in the advert led us to believe that it would be a place to sit just outside the front of the house. With two children, we didn’t really want to be separated from them whilst we were sitting in the grassed area. Again, nothing serious, but we felt that the wording of the advert could have been a little more accurate. All in all, we found our stay to be comfortable and enjoyable with enough facilities in the house to cater for our needs. The cat was very sweet and an added bonus!

Superb location off the beaten track, but still close to the beautiful western lakes. Clean, comfortable and so quiet. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful throughout. Thank you for such a relaxing and enjoyable few days
