It has been converted into a most original one bedroom cottage set in the stunning hidden valley of Grisedale, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. It offers wonderful views, solitude, great walking and is close to many places of interest. Grisedale is about 3 miles from the famous Settle/Carlisle railway and the station of Garsdale. It is just off the A684 between the lively towns of Hawes, 8 miles (home of Wensleydale cheese), and Sedbergh, 7 miles. The nearest pub, serving good food and a selection of real ales, is about 2 miles away. Grisedale was once famous as the ’The Dale that Died’ after the book and TV documentary of 1975, but is now a beautiful setting for a peaceful holiday in wonderful, natural surroundings. The area is a paradise for bird watchers with birds of prey, owls, curlew, oystercatchers, lapwing and grouse. Wildlife includes red squirrel, stoat, hare and deer. There is fantastic walking potential with the cottage being close to the Pennine Way, the Three Peaks and the Howgill Fells. The Ingleborough area provides all the wonders of limestone scenery with its caverns and potholes, and the Lake District is only a short drive away.

We have rented at least 2 properties a year for the last many years, this for 2 people is very close to the top that to an extent I want to keep secret, so just between us...So, if you want to go where there are is nothing but the great outdoors, then this is it. Great for 2 people. Snug as a bug in a rug (with the log burner's support). You can walk straight out of the "house" and come back via the pub and Garsdale Head accompanied by the moon. Clearly there are no amenities besides a railway station and pub down the hill. If you want a Tesco's next door you are out of luck though I suspect that deliveries are available. Surely the point of such a place is that you call in at Booths on the way and get all the stuff you think you need and then some. If you are a bed snob, like me, then you would bring your own bedding but then I always do. I was surprised to see sharp knives. Good to have reasonable WIFI with internet enabled TV that works for when the night draws in and there are no owls about. The only thing that I wished for was a bath for a long soak after the big walk but that would be a pipe dream. Note that this is not the sort of place where you sit by the bay window of the evening and watch the sun set, you are either in or out.

It is an amazing cottage, very quirky. Small as you can see from the photos but has everything you need. Cosy, though still a bit chilly in December even with the stove. Were slightly disappointed that there was a holiday cottage close by that wasn’t shown in the photos so not quite solitude. Got snowed in one day which was exciting. Thankyou.

I was disappointed in this cottage. The cottage is situated in an unfrequented valley, which is partly what attracted it to us. However the barn conversion was such that it made appreciating the location difficult. The property has very few windows downstairs, the ones that exist are narrow and small, so there are no views of the valley from downstairs. The largest window is that of the glass door which looks at the property opposite. There is seating outside (not suitable in poor weather) and a lean-to glass greenhouse at the rear. This cannot be accessed from the house and did not look inviting. The kitchen is very small (looks larger in the pictures) and the equipment dated but adequate. The valley has a numbers of signs discouraging public access so the paths on the ground are very sketchy (we are experienced walkers). Cleanliness is okay; but quite a bit of the equipment needs to be replaced or cleaned thoroughly.
