"We stopped at the Vermont last week in march and there was 5 adults and 1 dog,On arriving at the cottage we found the code for key was incorrect so rang the phone number provided and given the correct number and the person was very helpful and rang us up later to see if everything was ok. ..."

"Where Vermont is also a perfect for walks because there is a forest walk just behind it and a visitor centre only 30 minutes away with a lovely cafe and a smaller go ape/bike hire and well marked paths of different distances from 1 and a half hours to 4 hours The dog in dream land with all the open space and would book it again if he could, The place it self is so well set up with everything you could want and is set in a quiet area well away from the A66. The views are very good from the down stairs living room/kitchen and we spent alot of time in the upstairs as that is so well set up. Will book again in the future"

"We really had a great week at the Vermont, the weather was good and we explored scarf pike, catbells and visited keswick,Ullswater and Windermere and even had time for go ape near Windermere. "Unfortunately, the washing machine and tumble drier are in a garage full of rubbish, a large Christmas tree, a burst box of spilling washing powder and a leaking roof which has made every surface very wet - not a clothes or me friendly environment. The tumble drier is £1 coin operated but the new £1 did not seem to fit. There are no hooks to hang any coats in the main house and the upstairs is much chillier than the ground floor - making the upstairs lounge unappealing, even though it has a great view. This is the only property that we have ever booked that has not had a welcome pack of at least tea bags, coffee or sugar - ? is this a Lakes Cottage Holiday norm or just this property as having driven for 7 hours in difficult weather conditions this was disappointing."

"Positives..spacious, well equipped, well situated, good views and walks. Negatives..cleaners want sacking. Found it very dirty, dusty cobwebs alround filthy muck under settees and not left from previous occupants, been there a while. Mould alround bathrooms. Upstairs shower leaking onto bedroom carpet. No bathroom cleaning products. Toilet brushes covered in used toilet roll. Roof leaking in upstairs sitting room, had to sit with water dripping into a bowl all night. Been going to the lake district for Xmas for 10 yrs and this is the worst in terms of cleanliness. Needs a good sorting. We won't be rushing back here..."

"If you want to stay and visit Keswick but don't want to be in town, then this accommodation is in a great location being about 5-7 minutes drive away in a rural very quiet village location, in fact it was ideal for the two of us and our two dogs. Apart from the Pottery 30 seconds away, which serves nice tea/coffee and cakes, there is nothing else there but we found it great to be able to drive into Keswick which has an abundance of shops and restaurants. You can walk steeply uphill on footpaths from the door into Whinlatter Forest, taking about 20-30 minutes to get to the main visitor centre area. The actual dormer bungalow accommodation is fine; it has a good size driveway and a very small garden with patio, the garden has no lawn so is mainly shrubs. Whilst we were able to keep our dogs within the fenced garden area it is not gated so be careful. Its very easy to criticise small aspects of the accommodation as others in the Visitor Book have done so over many years and in isolation not major problems, but are helpful suggestions to improve, like needing a mirror in the en-suite, somewhere to hang coats in the hall, a clothes horse, replacement dishwasher cutlery basket, a floor mop etc, none of these had actually been done which is a pity. It had good Wi-Fi connection and the rooms are fairly large. There are great views of the fells particularly from the upstairs rooms. It was nice to have both a downstairs and upstairs lounge with TV in both. There was plenty of china and cutlery, cooking utensils etc. The owners phoned us on arrival and were extremely keen to make sure we were happy with the accommodation; a nice touch. The décor was fine; in places it needs a little TLC and smartening up. It is not luxury accommodation neither is it poor. The showers again were fine, they are electric powered so the flow rate is always going to be limited compared with a pumped or mains pressure shower. If you are tall, then the upstairs bedroom may be an issue in places. The bed was very comfortable. For us the location and views were the main USP, the fact that it needed a little TLC in places was not off-putting. Yes we'll return if they'll have us."

"Great cottage. Well-equipped and comfortable, lots of lovely walks nearby, good views from inside. Shop is quite a long walk away in the next village - 3 pubs in next village too. You can't actually see the mountain view from the outside seating area, but otherwise all good and as described."

"Vermont is a spacious, well-equipped cottage in the quiet village of Thornthwaite, near Keswick. Within a few minutes of walking out of the door you can be on the footpath over to Whinlatter Forestry Centre, the footpath to Braithwaite or the back road/path to Bassenthwaite. We saw red squirrel and deer in the woods. The amenities of Keswick are a short drive away, with Penrith a little further away. There are things to do for all ages close at hand but we liked the walking best!"

"Well maintained home. Suited our needs as we were looking for a house with bedroom and bathroom downstairs. Nice view from upstairs lounge. Easy access to main road. Good location to drive to different places around the region."

"On arrival the bin in kitchen had not been emptied not a very pleasant welcome on taking out the bin we found the outside bin had not been emptied. Upstairs lounge curtain rail was broken at one end no bracket. Lovely setting lovely place needs a little TLC"

"A well- equipped, clean home in a peaceful village with fantastic views of the fells. A short distance from the town of Keswick, the Theatre by the Lake and Derwent Water cruises, there's plenty to see and do whether you're an intrepid fell-walker or just looking for a relaxing rural getaway. I loved the views from the upper level windows and the short walk to Thornthwaite Gallery."

"Excellent cottage in a beautiful location. Well equipped with all you need for a self catering holiday. Thornthwaite is a peaceful little place with a lovely gallery. We were on a cycling holiday and the little laundry room was ideal for storing bikes& equipment. We had stunning weather which just made this a fabulous stay, breakfast & lunch alfresco in the garden most days, we ate out each evening, lots of choice in Keswick and surrounding areas, if you get the chance visit Go ape in Whinlatter Forest -surreal experience! Can't wait to return to the area"

"My family gathered in Vermont at Easter. We came from three counties and our party included a baby. The house was very clean, large enough for us all to gather together and yet to find space when we needed some quiet time. The views towards Skiddaw are beautiful and there are walks from the house. There was plenty of cooking equipment and quick dishwasher, or Keswick just a short drive for eating out or a take away. The beds were comfortable and the house very warm. All three cars were parked off road. Coat pegs behind the bedroom doors or a coat stand for dry coats, and some coats pegs in the utility for the inevitable wet coats would have saved us draping them over leather dining chairs and dripping on to the lovely oak floor! But that said we had a truely relaxing break in an absolutely beautiful setting. Would go again tomorrow!"

"Enjoyed our stay in Vermont very much, we were lucky enough to have wonderful weather so could really appreciate the stunning views from the windows. A very comfortable and warm property and also very spacious with both upstairs and downstairs lounges. Spotlessly clean and everything you need to hand. Recommend highly."
