About this property

Bassenthwaite 2 miles. This is a lovely semi-detached cottage on a working livestock farm close to the village of Bassenthwaite in the Lake District. This charming cottage is perfect for a small family or friends wishing to explore this beautiful part of the country. The cottage is accessed through the farm yard and once through the front door there is a small hall. From the hall there are four steps leading down to the lower ground floor where you will find two comfortable bedrooms, one double and one twin (this bed can be zip/link to one super king-size double on request). Back up to the hallway where there is the family bathroom and then a further seven steps up to the open plan living area with lovely views. The kitchen is well-equipped and has a dining area where you can eat super meals prepared in the kitchen and then relax in the sitting area, enjoying a refreshing drink whilst planning your activities for the days ahead. Outside the cottage there is a shared garden where you can sit and enjoy the tranquillity of the beautiful rural location. Being surrounded by mesmerising countryside, there are plenty of paths and bridleways to explore, and red squirrels can often be seen from the cottage. The cottage is also close to Mire House, Dodd Wood and Bassenthwaite Lake with plenty of walking and mountain biking available. A short drive away is the town of Keswick where there is a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, and Hope Park, situated on the shores of Derwentwater, has a lovely pitch-and-putt course. There are many trips up the lake and you can also explore the Cumbrian coastline, Hadrian’s Wall and Carlisle.

An attractive village in the Northern Lakes, Bassenthwaite lies just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake, and retains its traditional rural feel, with a stream flowing gently on the outskirts, whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a pleasant village green and a real ale inn full of character! Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England.

Great location with beautiful views plus weather was excellent. Only negative, however, a major one was our dogs being attacked by the black Patterdale dog who lives in the house on site. Our dogs were on leads, as stated in the agreement of rental, due to this being a working farm. We adhered to this at all times. This dog was roaming free in the morning and just started biting our dogs and wouldn't give up. Eventually the owner came and got it. Hopefully the dog will be locked up or muzzled at all times so no one else has this trauma. Great holiday marred by dog's owner not following farm rules!!!

Good access for walking and biking pursuits. Additional touches added by owners which made it more special. Used the Sun Inn for evening meals. Excellent food Marjory
