    About this property

Enjoy the 9 acres of meadowland that surrounds this property, or travel further afield and discover Ledbury, Hereford, Gloucester and more!.
Many years ago, The Cider House was used for storage of grain and home-produced cider barrels (from which its name derives), and preceding that, it housed the farmstead’s cows. More recently, the owners of this model Flemish Bond brick-building have seen it transformed into a calm, comfortable and relaxing retreat in the hills. Well-kept and equipped with all necessary mod-cons, the property is an enviable holiday accommodation, ideal for those who seek solace from the madding crowd and the pressures of the everyday grind.

The property is situated in 9 acres of meadowland, with a meandering brook and smallholding within the grounds of the owner’s working farm, Highbridge Farm, surrounded by rolling Herefordshire countryside yet with easy access to the pretty market town of Ledbury. History emanates from every corner of the farm; earthworks are still visible along the edge of the spinney which dates back to 1066, and the land around the present location of Highbridge Farm has been worked since the Norman times. Buildings of the farm have been present since c1540, and although it has now silted up and planted with young trees, the small stream was once dammed to form a header pool, most likely used to feed the nearby River Leadon. Also visible are medieval ridge and furrow earthworks, a ploughing system used in the Middle Ages (which have been mapped from aerial photos as part of the Malvern Hills National Mapping Programme). Sure enough, the property is great for those who have a thirst for history.

Walkers can enjoy walks from the doorstep and beyond to the Malvern Hills; you might want to bring a camera, sketch pad and pencil, as the area is also popular with photographers, artists and cyclists alike. There are many historical places of interest to visit including castles, National Trust houses and gardens. Ledbury itself offers a selection of boutique shops, galleries, restaurants and local attractions. The picturesque Forest of Dean is well worth a visit for a picnic, or absorb the stunning scenery of the Wye Valley. Further afield but within easy driving, is the cathedral city of Hereford, Ross-on-Wye, Gloucester and Cheltenham. Shop 1¼ miles, pub 1 mile and restaurant 1½ miles.

"The welcome we received from Carol and Ian was wonderful. They made us at home and accepted the dogs too."

"The Cider House was the perfect location for us. Really quiet, comfortable beds, immaculate and really well equipped cottage and simply excellent hosts. We would recommend the cottage to anyone wanting to explore this area."
    Christine ‐ 23 Sep 2018
"Very welcoming friendly hosts to a beautiful cottage well equipped, well stocked and furnished to a high standard. The cottage is pretty perfect, just one small issue if you were on a walking holiday with bad weather there is little space for 4 pairs of dirty boots, wet outside clothes or muddy paws 🐾 etc."

"The cottage itself had a well stocked kitchen and was comfortable. People should be aware that the entrance/exit of the property is challenging with no signage and poor visibility when joining the road. There were a few small niggles issues such as no handle on kitchen window, lock broken on bathroom door, very noisy cooker extractor and hard, scratchy towels. There is currently a very large wasps nest in the lawn of the holiday property garden which the owners would not remove. This made it impossible to sit outside with a drink/food. The property is not within walking distance of pubs/shops as it is on a narrow but fairly busy road which has no pavements. Overall a disappointment."

"I am a loss where to start, because everything was perfect. Warm welcome upon arrival and welcome pack included bottles of cider. Located a couple of miles outside Ledbury and very easy to find; fabulous views and it was nice to be able to wander around the fields and feed the chickens. As for the accommodation, fitted out to the highest standard and contains everything you are likely to need; whether this be cooking or cleaning/washing.Upstairs bedroom and bathroom have sloped ceiling, but this is part of the charm of this beautiful little cottage. Will definitely be returning."

"Lovely cottage and great for our dog too with lots of new smells for him to explore in the garden!"
    EDWARD ‐ 27 May 2018
"We found the cottage both comfortable and well equipped - it was great to be left some welcoming provisions for our arrival. Carol and Ian were friendly but did not disturb us at all. We took our dog Boyd - it was thoughtful to place chairs just outside but under cover so his paws could be properly dried before entering. The enclosed garden was secure and there was a footpath across a field just outside to walk him although the grass was rather long. Our daughter and partner joined us for 3 nights and used the upstairs bedroom with its en-suite, which was useful to have but not quite as good as the en-suite to the downstairs bedroom. If four adults share for a week, the upstairs would definitely be drawing the short straw. However the cost reflects this compared with similar cottages. We can definitely recommend staying in this cottage, especially for dog owners or parents with two teenagers."

"Fabulous cottage highly recommended. Lots if personal touches."

"Wonderful few days spent at The Cider House. A very warm welcome from Carol and a lovely thoughtful selection of local produce together with information on local events. Not been on a cottage break before and Carol and Ian have set the bar very high for any future cottage holidays."

"Four of us spent Christmas together. The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable. Warm and welcoming. I cooked Christmas dinner without any problems. The only problem we had was the en suite bathroom for the upstairs bedroom. The roll top bath had a shower, but because of the sloping ceiling it is impossible to stand up to shower. Especially when my husband is 6ft. The upstairs bedroom is very Quirky with sloping ceiling and low beams. However we enjoyed our Christmas at the Cider House. Ian and Carol, the owners, were very welcoming and their freshly laid eggs were delicious on Christmas morning with smoked salmon and champagne."
    David ‐ 23 Dec 2017
"Very quiet and relaxing, but within easy reach of places we wished to go to.We and the dogs can definitely recommend this cottage, its one of the best we have been to and has all the necessary facilities provided.Ian and Carol were very welcoming sharing their plans for the cottage and surrounds."
