About this property

Situated next to the owners’ 19th century Coach House, The Bothy is a delightful detached barn conversion located along a quiet country lane approximately three miles from Ross-on-Wye in the hamlet of Phocle Green. As you step through the front door you will notice the beautiful oak flooring and the character beams and stonework typical of the Herefordshire area. The immaculately presented accommodation is set over two floors, with the attractively furnished and decorated spacious bedroom and en-suite bathroom, and cloakroom on the ground floor. Head up the oak staircase and you will find the open plan living area on the first floor, with a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable sitting and dining areas and French doors leading to the private patio area to the rear of the cottage. With its secluded aspect and countryside views the patio is the perfect spot to sit and enjoy an early morning coffee whilst you plan your day’s activities or enjoy alfresco dining. Lovely countryside walks are right on your doorstep and the location of this delightful Herefordshire cottage just under three miles from historic Ross-on-Wye, makes it the perfect base from which to explore any number of local attractions. The annual Ross Walking Festival offers walks of between three to eight miles and your four-legged friend will be welcome on some of them too. Why not spend time exploring the glorious countryside? With the Malvern Hills, Symonds Yat, the Wye Valley, Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds all within easy reach you will be spoilt for choice. Take a day or two to discover historic Hereford with its renowned cathedral, home of the Mappa Mundi, or elegant Bath with its Roman Baths and Georgian architecture. Then there is the riverside City of Gloucester with its unique history from its Roman foundations to its Victorian docklands or the equally splendid Regency town of Cheltenham, known as the cultural centre of the Cotswolds. The nearby town of Ross-on-Wye itself offers many activities such as canoeing, walking, cycling, fishing and golf. Whatever your interests you will be sure to find something to delight and entertain you with historical properties, stately homes and lovely gardens to visit and enjoy. The Bothy is a wonderful, quality characterful cottage, perfect for a romantic break for two and surrounded by tranquil Herefordshire countryside.

The hamlet of Phocle Green lies between Ross-on-Wye and Upton Bishop and is less than 3 miles from Ross-on-Wye. Ross-on-Wye is a historic market town overlooking a large loop in the beautiful River Wye, situated in the heart of rural Herefordshire and in the picturesque Wye Valley. This attractive town has timbered Tudor houses clustered around the striking 17th century Market Hall, and there are excellent shops, pubs and restaurants to suit every taste. Stroll along the lovely river bank, take a river cruise or view the surrounding countryside from a hot-air balloon. Upton Bishop offers many lovely walks and cycle routes with the Herefordshire Trail and Wye Valley Walk both close by. Phocle Green is an ideal base for exploring all that this region has to offer.

Light and spacious open plan living area. Excellent hosts making sure our stay was very relaxing.

No continuous hot water even after host twice looked at the boiler. Note: No hairdryer provided so take your own! Beware of the garden bench - not safe to sit on. We won't be returning.

The negative points of the Bothy were: 1. the lack of continuous hot water: we could have a wash or wash up only in the morning because in the evening there was no hot water at all. 2. There were a lot of cobwebs around. The owner mentioned the cleaner was new, so I suggest they tell her/him to just move a chair or a curtain.
