About this property

The Old Post Office in the pretty village of Higham provides a wonderful base to explore the beautiful countryside of Dedham Vale, closely associated with the works of John Constable. The cottage features in his painting, The Stour Valley from Higham. This beautiful timber framed building has lots of space to relax in, with a cosy wood burning stove in the sitting room.

Dating from the 1600s, this property has a wealth of features including exposed beams and fire places and provides a perfect property for a family get-together, allowing you to have a relaxing and peaceful time exploring the local area. The charm of the original features, such as the oak floor upstairs, is balanced with the modern amenities of a well-equipped kitchen, bathrooms and comfy beds. There is a separate dining and sitting room with the original old post office situated at the front of the cottage, providing a further room to relax in. The cottage welcomes dogs so your four-legged friend is able to join you while you explore Suffolk.

In the main cottage there are three bedrooms with a shared bathroom. The fourth bedroom is located in a separate building with its own en-suite shower room and a television providing privacy from the rest of the cottage.

Additional Information

Two well behaved dogs welcome (small additional charge).

Cot and high chair available on request (linen not supplied).

The floors both downstairs and upstairs are original and uneven. There is a large step down from the sitting room into the family room.

A really lovely place to stay in Suffolk. As described in the listing, the layout of the bedrooms upstairs is slightly strange. You often have to walk through one bedroom to reach another and all the bedrooms share a bathroom which is actually an ensuite of one of the bedrooms (so again, lots of walking through each others rooms). The floorboards upstairs are also very warped so the surface is quite uneven and sound travels quite easily in the house so overall there's not much privacy. But if everyone in your party gets on it shouldn't be a problem. And don't let this put you off, we had a brilliant stay!

Beautiful old cottage with comfy beds. Great location very close to Flatford mill. We had a great weekend.

Fabulous home, great location, perfect for us and grown up kids and partners. Styled fabulously, I wish it was my home! Would love to book again. (Only thing I’d say is the bedroom window blinds would be better as blackout ones and they are broken at the bottom.) Fab holiday. Thank you
