    About this property

Enjoy landscaped grounds and shared use of three games rooms during your stay at S18119 meaning there’s plenty to entertain the whole family whatever the weather.
In a rural location on the edge of the ancient village of Castle Hedingham, these two detached, single-storey holiday homes, set in the owners’ 10 acres of grounds, have far-reaching views over open countryside. The accommodation is well-presented and has the added benefit of a heated indoor swimming pool - the pool is shared between the two cottages (refs W43379 and W43233) and both are allocated 3 hours of private use per day (one hour in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening - the rest of the time is shared use). There is also a large fully equipped barbecue area which can be hired. Castle Hedingham lies in the valley of the River Colne on the ancient road between Colchester (20 miles west) and Cambridge (30 miles east); it still retains many beautiful timber-framed, medieval and Tudor buildings including Hedingham Castle (a Norman castle, the ancestral seat of the Earls of Oxford). The area is ideal for walking or cycling. Nearby places of interest include the Colne Valley steam railway, Sudbury and Saffron Walden. Shop, pub and restaurant 0.5 miles.
All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. Utility room. 3 bedrooms: 2 double, 1 twin with 2 additional singles. Wet room with toilet.
Satellite TV (basic package). iPod dock. Tumble dryer. Wheelchair access.
Both properties: Electric heaters and electricity by meter reading. Bed linen and towels included. Cot and high chair on request. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Tumble dryer. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi (in games rooms). Shared landscaped 10-acre grounds with sitting-out area and furniture. Barbecue (at cost, by arrangement with owner). Ample parking. Cycle store. Shared indoor heated swimming pool (8m x 3.5m, depth 1.2m) with changing room, open 9am to 10pm all year (3 hours’ private use per day). Shared games room with pool table and table tennis. Second shared games room with pool table and air hockey. Third shared games room. Welcome pack. No smoking. NB: 5 steps in grounds. This property has a security deposit of £200.

"The owner was a pleasureNice having a swimming pool and games rooms availableAnd a field for the dogs to have a runNear the castle, unfortunately it was closed for the season. There are a couple of not so good bits ....The floors in the cottage ‘squeak’ maybe because the cottage is cold and then warms up when people stay, and be honest it drove us mad!The shower needs updating and possibly the oven. But have to say despite all that we would stay there again as the positives outway the negatives"

"Didn’t realise when booking no bath, with 6 month old baby, very difficult. Bathroom was very damp. Pool not warm enough for adults, let alone babies, did ask for temperature to be turned up, but still cold. However, ideal location and extremely clean. very friendly man Terry who runs it. Ideal location for families with dogs. Maybe more ideal for group of adults. We were out a lot and ideal location for places we went to. Could do with a bathroom revamp."

"Loved this place, had so much to keep the kids amused, swimming pool was great and table tennis and air hockey great fun and all just a couple of steps away. Lots of lovely walks to take the dog too."

"Lovely location, good on site facilities but outside space needs tidying up. Could do with remodernising in the swimming pool area. Great for dog walking and peace and quiet. In comparison to other places for the money it’s very overpriced."

"What a brilliant hamlet, tucked away in an idyllic location. Villa was HUGE! There was only 3 of us but cottage (villa), sleeps 8. There were several game rooms so you don't need to share with anyone. The swimming pool was heated and a welcomed delight for our daughter who did NOT want to go home after out holiday had ended. The host Terry, was such a lovely man. He was so accommodating and super friendly that he couldn't do enough. He's built a wonderful set of cottages that is secluded and an ideal getaway. No noise, no traffic - just the birds singing in the morning. WE loved it. Thank you. The family that stayed in the Chinnock cottage last weekend. Thank you, Terry."

"Well equipped cottage with nice rooms (bathroom facilities could be better for 8 people) - great pool and games rooms which kept kids and adults occupied when raining!"

"For 2 family's to share a single toilet and wash facilities was not ideal, also to not have a mixer tap in the bathroom considering young children are to use it was not good, we had to use the kitchen sink for the kids. The corridor was extremely creeky and 6 out of 9 of us had issues regarding how uncomfortable the beds were and the Wi-Fi signal was poor in the evening."
