Orchard Cottage is highly praised for its beautiful, rural setting near Durham, offering peaceful stays with friendly hosts. Guests enjoy the well-equipped property, comfortable beds, and the hot tub. The presence of friendly dogs adds to the charm. While some minor issues are noted, the overall experience is one of relaxation and enjoyment, making it a recommended choice for travellers.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Most guests find the cottage clean and well-maintained, though a few mention areas where cleanliness could be improved, such as under sofas and kitchen equipment. The majority of feedback, however, reflects a satisfactory level of cleanliness.

The location is consistently lauded for its tranquillity and proximity to Durham, with easy access to local attractions and countryside walks. The rural setting is appreciated for its peace and beauty.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, with some noting the soft bedding. However, there are comments about hard sofas and the need for better mattresses in some rooms, slightly affecting the comfort score.

The facilities, especially the hot tub, are a highlight for many guests. Some feedback suggests a need for more cookware and updates to some kitchen equipment and furniture, but overall, the facilities are well-received.

The hosts are noted for their thoughtfulness, with mentions of a warm welcome and gifts such as prosecco and coffee treats. While these gestures are appreciated, it is politely noted that such extras are not guaranteed for every stay.

This is a lovely cottage offering an escape from everyday life for a family or group of friends wishing to explore this lovely part of the country. This beautiful cottage has been lovingly renovated, with special attention being paid to retaining some of the building’s history, along with boasting countryside views and easy access to the city. There are rustic flagstone floors, exposed stone walls, beams and original trusses throughout the house. The sitting room has a cosy woodburning stove and boasts views out to the garden and play area, making it a cosy place to relax at any time of the year. The farmhouse-style country kitchen, with beautiful tiled floor, Belfast sink and all the usual appliances, also has a large dining area. There are two ground floor king-size bedrooms, one with a cosy woodburning stove, a ground floor wet room and two first floor king-size bedrooms with fine views over the countryside, with both sharing a bathroom. French doors from the sitting room lead on to the patio area with private hot tub and furniture. Relax with a refreshing drink or dine alfresco after preparing a wonderful meal on the barbecue. Everyone will love the hot tub, a perfect place to unwind and gaze at the wonderful rural views. The city of Durham is only three miles away with an array of shops, pubs and restaurants, and a short drive will take you to the Roman town of Chester-le-Street or Beamish Museum. A little further afield are the Durham Dales, Newcastle upon Tyne, Hadrian's Wall, the Heritage Coast, Cragside at Rothbury and the North York Moors. Centrally located this cottage is the perfect place for that relaxing holiday break.

Situated in one of the most beautiful counties of England, Durham city is one of the jewels in England’s crown. Clean and spacious in an attractive rural setting, ideal for walks. Close to Durham for shopping and restaurants. Ample parking for multiple cars. Highly recommended, great for a family get together. Nothing is too much trouble for friendly staff who attended at check -in.

We were a family of 6 adults and 2 children and we never felt cramped. It’s very specious, very clean and the hot tub is lovely. Lots of extras that we’ve not come across before on similar properties such as coffee pods, dishwasher tablets and supplies for the washing machine. Had a lovely walk by the river (bring your wellies in winter months) the log fire was a treat in November. Only 3 miles from Durham but felt like we were in the middle of nowhere as it’s so peaceful yes so accessible. We will be back in the summer hopefully. Thank you to the host Peter
