I have just returned back from 4 nights away at Durham Coastal Lodges (staying in the Willoughby Lodge) and I cannot recommend it enough! Sue provided a lovely warm welcome on arrival (shame the weather didn't) explaining how the hot tub worked and said if there was any issues just to let her know. I like the hot tub hot so I asked later that night if it could be cranked up a few degrees and she kindly sorted it out the next morning while doing the daily clean/check of the hot tub.My first impression of the lodge on entering is something I have never had before.....I was blown away by all aspects of it. The cleanliness being the most important, and it was spotless. There is literally everything you need in the lodge for a lovely comfortable and relaxing time away. The main reason I booked the lodge was for the location and the peace and quiet and it didn't disappoint that's for sure! On a night time the only thing you can hear is the local wildlife, and in particular an owl which would be close by after midnight. Something I have never heard (other than on the TV)! There is also a local cockerel (called Geoff apparently) which would sit on the fence next to the lodge and makes some very amusing noises. The finishing touches that are provided in the lodge are second to none. There are little things that you keep noticing all the time (even on the morning I left after 4 nights there). The beds are super comfy and the slate floors make a lovely touch...although a bit of advice, try to avoid wearing socks as I found out they can be a little slippery! :) There is a log burner in the lodge which I didn't use as the heating was more than adequate, with just a press of a button you could select 2, 4 or 6 hours of heat.I love a hot tub when I am away and the one here was the best I have ever had.....the size of it makes it more like a swimming pool to be honest! :)I loved the time away so much I was checking out the prices for this year on my way home! Thanks again Sue for a lovely time and hopefully will be back very soon.
