About this property

Stanhope 5.7 miles. Enveloped by the North Pennines (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Rookhope is a small picturesque village nestling in its own valley just off the A689 through Weardale, steeped in history with a strong community feel. A number of walks, cycle paths and bridle ways are easily accessible in the area and enjoy stunning scenery and beautiful surroundings. Set all on the ground floor, this cosy property offers lovely views across the village to the countryside beyond, allowing you a restful break at any time of the year. On entrance, theres a porch for shoes/coats and a utility area housing a fridge/freezer and washing machine for your convenience. This leads through to the kitchen area, which is well-equipped for cooking up a delicious meal for the whole family and getting together at the dining table. Later, wrap yourselves around the warmth of the woodburning stove and tune into the TV or simply chat late into the evening over a few drinks. There are two well-presented bedrooms in this property with bedside tables, lamps, chester drawers and open wardrobes. The double hosts an en-suite shower room, while the twin has an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath. To the outside, beyond the parking area you have a small seating area, where you can soak up this peaceful, countryside setting with a refreshing drink and/or BBQ. North of the village is the pretty village of Allenheads, leading through to the South Tyne valleys and Allendale. To the South, Stanhope has a selection of pubs and there are also specialist shops, a Co-Op, art galleries and an outdoor swimming pool. Further East is the historic City of Durham with the Romanesque Durham Cathedral and Norman Durham Castle. Medieval Crook Hall is home to gardens and a maze. Durham University offers a Botanic Garden with woodland and tropical plants. You have off-road parking and a secure storage shed to keep any bikes, should you wish to do any cycling while you are in the area; Rookhope is right on the coast-to-coast cycle route! The local pub, the Rookhope Inn (a 2 minute walk from the Cottage), offers a selection of beers/food and a warm welcome. Choose this characterful retreat for a restful break in the countryside.

The market town of Stanhope lies in the Wear Valley, and is home to a selection of pubs, specialist food stores, coffee shops, art galleries, a heated outdoor swimming pool and riverside walks, plus the town is on the C2C cycle route. The city of Durham is within easy reach, as is Hadrian's Wall, while Hamsterley Forest, Killhope Lead Mining Museum and Barnard Castle are also worth a visit.
