Long since landscaped and afforested, this Barnard Castle cottage lies in a small valley with public footpaths leading away from the door and into the beautiful surrounding countryside. The market town of Barnard Castle stands on the site of an ancient Roman ford in the glorious unspoiled countryside of Teeside. The town takes its name from its 12th Century founder, Bernard de Balliol. The castle was later developed by the Beauchamp family and Richard III, and the ruin of the castle still dominates the settlement, set on a high rock above the town overlooking the River Tees and is well worth a visit. The town itself has lovely cobbled streets and back lanes ready to be explored. The surrounding area is home to some fabulous walking country, with the Pennine Way, Teeside Way and the magnificent High Force waterfalls all close to hand. This area is home to some great family attractions and is a tremendous location for an enjoyable holiday.

Also an independent over the kitchen area would be good rather than have all the lights on. We found it well equipped and comfortable though and a lovely area.

It's a warm, cosy hide-away where you can chill continuously or go and explore the stunning surrounding countryside, after which you return to the property to continue chilling. Great walks on the doorstep so you could have a vehicle-free holiday. All in all, the perfect get-away for two.
