About this property

This delightful Grade II listed cottage is one in a row of similar properties, set along the road which leads to the river and various scenic walks, including Castlemans Way, which leads to Poole. The cottage is one of 111 originally built as estate workers’ cottages for the Canford Estate, which is now Canford School, and they are known locally as Lady Wimborne Cottages. Their construction is attributed to the philanthropic work of Lady Charlotte Guest, wife of Sir John Guest who was the owner of a vast Welsh iron and steel works, followed by the work of their daughter-in-law Cornelia, Lady Wimborne, from whom the cottages took their name. The cottages were built between 1867 and 1904 and each has a number over the front door indicating the order they were built.
This light and airy, tastefully styled cottage has original features such as lattice windows, a wooden porch, large ornamental door hinges and an ornamental fire surround in the bedroom. The open plan living/dining room leads to a sunny conservatory, which opens to an enclosed courtyard. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, the master benefiting from a walk-in wardrobe, and a separate bathroom.
There is a bus stop close by for trips to the charming market town of Wimborne, or to Poole with its award-winning sandy beach. There is so much to do in the area, with Bournemouth, Poole, Salisbury and Dorchester all within easy driving distance, as are The New Forest and Christchurch Harbour. Attractions to visit include Brownsea Island, Beaulieu Motor Museum, The Purbecks with the National Trust Corfe Castle and the seaside town of Swanage. Famous as ’Hardy Country’ many of Dorset’s towns and landmarks are recognisable from the novels of Thomas Hardy, who was born in Dorchester. The county is renowned for its miles of beautiful beaches as well as Jurassic Coastline for stunning views and walks, a World Heritage Site. For the outdoor enthusiast, there is walking and wildlife centres such as Avon Heath and Moors Valley with cycle hire, fishing, Segway and orienteering. Water sports are available nearby. Beach 8 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

"A lovely, cosy cottage with everything you need for a great holiday. Beautiful area to explore."
ailsa ‐ 14 Sep 2018
"Lovely cottage. Well equiped. Beautiful bathroom. Wonderful location. Great walks around area. Only downside is that it is on a very busy road."
JORDAN ‐ 7 Sep 2018
"Lovely comfortable cottage, though limited outdoor space. Unfortunately S50111 is plagued by a constant stream of speeding traffic and with parking on the opposite side of the road crossing it is a constant worry especially when loading/unloading the car."
Lee ‐ 31 Aug 2018
"Lovely cottage in an excellent location."
Ian ‐ 10 Aug 2018
"Comfortable and well equipped cottage. Prosecco & Cream cakes on arrival much appreciated."
Confirmed guest ‐ 27 Jul 2018
"Lovely cottage, really nice layout, spotless, family friendly and the dog enjoyed being there too. The only downsides were the early morning noise from the chickens/rooster a couple of doors down and the road was extremely busy. Walking the dog down by the river was great, there were patches that the dog could play in the water. Can walk to a pretty village via the river, we had afternoon tea there, very nice."
Laura ‐ 6 Jul 2018
"Second visit to S50111. Brilliant weather and lovely cottage. Just a bit noisy at night."
Elaine ‐ 8 Jun 2018
"We have stayed in a lit of cottages all lovely in there way .but this one was very special.so 5 stars .it was a high standard and a lot of thought has gone into it .and definitely will be going back there"
John ‐ 18 May 2018
"Beautiful cottage, plenty of things to do within half an hour. Dorset a truly stunning county."
Emma ‐ 29 Apr 2018
"Fell in love with this beautiful cottage. Such a lovely welcome from the owner leaving Prosecco and cream cakes in the fridge! Pretty decor, very well equipped - a real home from home. Thoroughly enjoyed staying there and will likely book again. Only small negative was the master bed being a bit too firm for us but that is personal choice. Otherwise absolutely would have no hesitation in rebooking."
Anita ‐ 13 Apr 2018
"Beautiful cottage in gorgeous setting. Its been tastefully renovated and is very homely. S50111 gives easy access to lots of places from Salisbury to Bournemouth, Christchurch and the south coast. Only downside is the busy road through the village which seems like a bit of a rat run"
Judy ‐ 6 Apr 2018
"Lovely"
M ‐ 9 Mar 2018
"This is one of the best cottages we have stayed in, very comfortable and a thoughtful range of useful items provided. It was a convenient location to explore the area. We especially enjoyed a visit to Kingston Lacy."
Rob ‐ 9 Feb 2018
"Beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean. No pub or shop within walking distance. Unfortunately on busy road."
Sarah-Anne ‐ 29 Dec 2017
"A lovely week away for Christmas where were were able to see family but have some quiet time for ourselves. The road was noisy but as I have previously lived in the area I was aware of this and so did not unduly concern me. The fact that we could bring our pet and have a local riverside walk on the doorstep was an enjoyable part of the week."
Sue ‐ 1 Dec 2017
"Best cottage that we have stayed in.We have been staying in cottages for 15 years and at least 4 times each year.Thank you Karen for letting us stay in your lovely cottage with the very thoughtful Tea/Coffee tray on arrival and the extras in the fridge. Very clean beautifully decorated and everything you need to make your stay at S50111 most enjoyable.Terry & Sue Dec 2017"
Jacqueline ‐ 21 Nov 2017
"Best cottage we have stayed and beautifully refurbished."
Steve ‐ 14 Nov 2017
"Having stayed in many holiday cottages over the last 40 years, I rate this cottage as the best ever; very well equipped, very charming, very comfortable and extremely well renovated. There is no off-road parking, but parking in the street, just across the road was easy (it may be more difficult in peak season). For us, the location was ideal, with Wimbourne Minster just a 5 minute drive, the coast at Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Swanage 20 to 30 minutes away, and also the New Forest. And everywhere is dog friendly. We will be returning."
Morag ‐ 9 Nov 2017
"It suited us very well as a base for driving to the coast and for visiting several towns in Dorset."
Andrew ‐ 27 Oct 2017
"The road is too busy"
Mick ‐ 20 Oct 2017
"A charming and comfortable cottage in which everything worked. We would definitely consider going back. One small drawback was that the road was something of a rat-run during the rush hours. Once we got used to that everything was fine."
Susanne ‐ 13 Oct 2017
"Beautiful cottage. Lovingly decorated. Spotless. Cosy. Excellent."
Susan ‐ 22 Sep 2017
"Extremely well equipped cottage. Great location. Owners have decorated extremely well throughout and put a lot of thought into the cottage."
Sharon ‐ 1 Sep 2017
"Great cottage, well kept by owner everything needed was there.close to all main roads also lots of river walks to enjoy.good place to holiday.only one problem the road outside the cottage does get busy in the morning,so you have to be careful with children and not be a light sleeper.however we think the cottage itself outwayed that small problem."
Dawn ‐ 25 Aug 2017
"Absolutely loved the cottage. Really homely, very well equipped and lots of little extra touches. The owners have clearly thought through the needs of the "holiday maker" and have provided accommodation which feels loved and beautifully maintained. Would recommend with no hesitation."
Margaret ‐ 7 Jul 2017
"A beautiful cottage, very comfortable with all that one could wish for.Everything was provided in the kitchen, a lovely welcome package to greet us on our arrival. The area itself provided great walks for our dogs, and was ideally situated to the coast, and places inland of interest too.Overall we would highly recommend S50111, and would defyinately goagain in the future."
Theresa ‐ 23 Jun 2017
"Beautiful chocolate box looking cottage, immaculately clean inside."
Confirmed guest ‐ 9 Jun 2017
"Wonderful cottage, best sleep I had in ages, the bed so comfortable. Only negative is the road busy"
Hazel ‐ 5 May 2017
"Beautifully furnished and equipped cottage, a great deal of thought has gone into the presentation of the cottage, good quality furnishings and equipment. As we have a dog the conservatory and enclosed rear garden was ideal. Lovely bathroom and walk in wardrobe. Nice welcome package from the owners. Felt really comfortable and a place for relaxing. Would definitely recommend to friends."
Pamela ‐ 28 Apr 2017
"The cottage is really lovely and the owners have thought of everything! The only downside for us from a personal point of view was that the beds could have been a little firmer, and a general point being that the road is very busy.We still loved it though!"
Elaine ‐ 21 Apr 2017
"A lovely cottage well located for visiting the area. A relaxing base"
William ‐ 7 Apr 2017
"A comfortable very clean cottage in a wonderful location. It isn't easy to park outside the cottage, (I was slightly dubious about parking on the opposite side of the road), however about 100yards up the road it widens out and it is easy to park there. I strongly recommend this holiday destination."
I
"Lovely cottage in great location. We love walking our new welsh border dog beside the sea and you are spoilt for choice in this location. Poole we thought particularly nice."
Steven
"Awesome. Loved the cottage. Really well equipped, lots of helpful information and a beautiful location.Could not recommend this place more. We will be coming back."
Louise
"We had a lovely time staying in this beautiful cottage. It is one of the best cottages we have stayed in, it was immaculate inside and had everything you could need. We will recommend it to our family and friends. Karen, the owner of the property was great to deal with. Lots to do in the area so fun was had by all."
Becky
"Lovely, cosy cottage in a great little village. It was ideal as it's close enough to lots of towns meaning we could visit somewhere different each day. Felt at home the minute we opened the door, very clean and well kept and had everything we needed. Would love to visit again in the summer time!"
Confirmed guest
"Cottage is beautifully presented, with lots of character. But it's on a road that gets busy at times and the noise can be disturbing. The owners are friendly and took the trouble to return an item I had left behind."
Lucy
"Wonderful cottage, simply the best I have ever stayed in..clean comfortable and the owners make you really welcome.."
Ruth
"The cottage at S50111 was very well equipped, and spotlessly clean. Karen made us feel welcome, and the goodies waiting for us on arrival were a nice surprise. We found the bed in the main bedroom pretty uncomfortable, we didn't sleep well, and even left a day earlier than we had planned to because of this. The cottage is on a busy road, the front bedroom would benefit from blackout curtain lining to prevent car headlights racing across the room while your'e trying to get to sleep, and in summer having the window open at night would be very noisy."
Malcolm
"Lovely cottage in a beautiful area. Close to the coast, towns and riverside walks."
Megan
"Lovely cottage we enjoyed our stay, highly recommend. We will definitely be back!"
Ann
"Lovely cottage and immaculate. Superb furnishing and perfectly equipped. A luxury property in every aspect and ideally situated for the coast and country in Dorset. One of the best properties we have ever stayed in. We could not recommend it too highly."
David
"A lovely cottage to stay in, very clean and comfortable. Central to the main places to visit."
Confirmed guest
"we stayed in a wonderful cottage, beautifully appointed, newly refurbished. the property had all the equipment and mod cons one would expect and more. I couldn't fault the cottage or the area, the only reason it is not a straight list of 10's is that the cottage is on an apparently quiet road, but i think it must be a rat run as there were a lot of vehicles driving quite fast, which didn't make it easy to cross with bags and stuff for days out and a small child. The property, however, i couldn't fault."
Gillian
"Very enjoyable. Lot's to do and an extremely comfortable cottage."
Geoff
"Excellent"
John
"The cottage was well equipped, comfortably furnished and conveniently located for all the attractions the area had to offer, Bournemouth and Poole being within easy reach. Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, the historic city of Winchester and the Isle of Purbeck and Studland Bay beach being less than an hours drive away. Would definitely visit again."
