About this property

Sixpenny Cottage takes its name from a Treasure Trove of James I Six Pence pieces discovered in the fireplace of an old shepherd's cottage that once stood on the site. Now, it is a holiday home that offers beautiful and tranquil surroundings. Having been designed to give a separate entrance from the main family house and good privacy, internally the property is spacious and charmingly furnished. With its own patio, you are invited to explore the lovely gardens and pond that enhance the setting for Waddon Lodge. A short walk will take you to the Wishing Well where you can experience an extensive menu offering homemade cooking and a variety of delicious puddings and cakes. There are also two pubs to choose from. Upwey village with its majestic Horse Chestnut trees and sparkling stream offers inspiration for any artistic talent. Excellent walking and bird watching opportunities exist. Thomas Hardy gained inspiration for some of his most famous books from this area. The location has an aura of yester years and the many attractive stone cottages which front the village adds to this truly English scene.

I had an excellent week's stay in the area and at Sixpenny Cottage, which was sublime. It ticked all the boxes on what I was looking for on top of that list was somewhere to relax, unwind with peace and quiet and all I could hear was the Dorset countryside it was great. It was also well equipped, spacious and well laid out so I would like to say thank you for a great holiday. Many thanks- Stayed September 2017.
