About this property

Woodlanders is a superb stone cottage located in the pretty village of Symondsbury, Dorset. Dating back 150 years, this property lies in a courtyard with several other cottages on a former working farm and boasting lovely characterful features throughout. Internally, the property has been renovated to a modern holiday home, ideal for small families or a group of friends looking for a remote countryside break, with easy access to the coastline. The ground floor hosts a stylish open-plan living space, with a sitting room housing two large sofas and a lovely woodburning stove to keep you warm during those chilly winter months, while you enjoy a relaxing evening keeping up to date with all your favourite shows on the provided TV. The dining area has seating for up to four people and is the perfect space for enjoying a lovely home-cooked meal, prepared in the modern fitted kitchen, which has all the appliances you could need to cook up a storm for the whole family! To the rear of the property is an enclosed stone and patio area, with a table and chairs provided - take a refreshing beverage outside and enjoy the lovely sunset. Symondsbury is ideally located for exploring many nearby attractions, including West Bay harbour, boasting a picturesque beach where families can enjoy a fun-filled day playing in the sand, topping up on your beach tan or enjoying a lovely swim - bring a picnic along and make a whole day of it. There are many fine walks in the Symondsbury area. The village itself has a wonderful historic attraction of Colmer's Hill, a 417-foot hill with a small pathway leading to the top - see how far you can get and test your athletic abilities. Once you reach the top of the hill you will look back down to Woodlanders cottage and experience some of the most magnificent countryside views around Symondsbury. Julia Bradbury’s 2016 ITV series, ‘Best Walks With a View’ features a Golden Cap walk, which starts in Symondsbury and is detailed on the National Trust website. In the cottage we provide details of circular walks which start by going out of the front door and turning left and up the lane. At the top of Thorncombe Beacon, which is 1-hour brisk walk from the cottage, you can join the South West Coast path and return via lunch/refreshment at the beachside pub at Seatown before walking back through Chideock. Alternatively, ashorter circular walk can be achieved by returning from Thorncombe Beacon either by the same route or via the nearby Down House Farm (Open all day for meals March to the end of October). There are lovely short strolls around the village or into Bridport (half an hour on foot) for the day or evening. With the Ilminster Arms (welcoming landlady and good food) and Manor Farm (shop and café) only a few hundred yards away there is no need to drive anywhere! The nearby coast is spectacularly beautiful and is world famous for its fossils. Charmouth beach is an excellent place to go fossilling. At the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre you can book organised fossil-hunt walks. Woodlanders is ideal for small families to enjoy the village and explore the local area.
