About this property

A modern and very spacious 2 bedroom barn conversion, sleeps 4. Within easy walking distance of excellent Child Okeford amenities

Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Chisel Barn is a new conversion designed and fitted to the highest standards. The barn consists of two, light and airy properties that, if rented together, will accommodate ten people. Both properties are single storey, with a large double height kitchen and living space.

Chisel Barn Foxditch retains many original features including exposed beams and vaulted ceilings. The property has two bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms, plus a cloakroom. The furnished terrace is the ideal place to relax and admire the spectacular views.

The barns were the base for a large and successful dairy enterprise and remain part of a working farm, with the adjoining buildings still actively being used for stock.

The magnificent and commanding views look over the River Stour valley, the dairy pastures of the Blackmore Vale and the churches of Shillingstone and Child Okeford to the south and west, and the Iron Age forts of Hambledon Hill to the north and Hod Hill to the east. A short walk across the farm takes you through a wood and past a lake to the excellent amenities of Child Okeford, or up the steep slopes to the top of Hambledon Hill where, on a clear day, there are views for many miles. Hambledon Hill is a classic example of an Iron Age hill fort and is now a National Nature Reserve famous for its wild flowers.

This is just one of many and varied walks which also include the Trailway along the old Somerset and Dorset Railway (and the newly restored Shillingstone station) to Sturminster Newton and Blandford Forum.

For Guests who wish to bring their horses, Chisel Barn offers the ideal setting and facilities as detailed below:

Basic barn stabling and grazing is available at an additional charge of £10 a horse

Bedding available by arrangement

Guests would need to supply their own feed, water buckets and equipment

Wow! What a fabulous place to stay. A good central location with amazing views over the countryside. The barn conversion itself is superb and very well equipped. We enjoyed our walk with the dog on the various bridal ways around the farm and down to the river Stour at the bottom of the valley (the dog enjoyed them too). If you’re on a walking holiday or just want to enjoy some great scenery we would highly recommend a walk along the coastal path, which takes in views of the Jurassic Coast. We started from a beautiful pub ( The Smugglers Inn) in Ossmington Mills and walked along the beach and cliffs. The Durdle Door is definitely worth a visit if you’ve not been before. All in all a very memorable holiday. We would definitely come again and will recommend.

Wonderful place to stay, very luxurious, lucky with the weather. Love the rain shower! Agree that some blinds or curtains would be nice for the dining area, especially in the winter. Was lovely to meet all the passing dogs, horses and sheep on the walks. Beautiful countryside, would definitely come again. Thank you for providing an extra child’s bed and emergency dinner cooking.

  • This barn conversion was a lovely week away in Dorset. We took our 7 year old west highland white terrier called Lucky and we thought that there would be no dog friendly places but we got that wrong! There were so many places to go including a hacking/pony trekking centre in the New Forest. I loved it! I went with Mum, Dad and Lucky my dog! I would totally recommend this place to anybody as I don’t want to go!
