This detached stone cottage, once a Devon longhouse dating from the 18th century, is situated about a mile from the Dartmoor village of Throwleigh, in a little hamlet called Aysh. Elegant and stylish with modern comforts, it is an excellent base for couples or a small family. The sitting room with its lovely granite floor is snug and comfortable with wood burning stove in the ancient inglenook and, with no TV in the cottage, is a fabulous place to escape modern technology and relax. The kitchen is simple but well equipped with a useful utility room. On the other side of the cottage, up a couple of steps, another big sitting room with dining area, traditional beams, gorgeous original features and French windows. Upstairs, you will find a fun den area with table football, chairs and a sofa bed to give you flexibility with sleeping arrangements. Duck under old fashioned low doorways into the two double bedrooms, sharing a bathroom with a sunken bath. The walled garden at the front leads through an arch to an orchard and meadows where you can dream and play, leading down to a stream. With Dartmoor on the edge of the hamlet and the Mariners’ Way walking route passing through, this is fabulous country for walkers. The little pub at Wonson is a time-forgotten place to meet interesting local folk, and there are more old inns in South Zeal village and Chagford. The town of Okehampton with cinema, leisure centre and restaurants is within easy reach and it’s only 18 miles to the cathedral city of Exeter. Ayshmoor is the perfect base for peace, walking and discovering Devon countryside.

A picturesque town at the northern point of Dartmoor National Park in Devon, Chagford is small in size but is packed with amenities and things to do. There is a wide range of shops as well as four pubs. Chagford also has more active facilities such as public tennis court and an open-air swimming pool to enjoy at your leisure.
