    About this property

On the Devon/Cornwall border at the historic Tamar Bridge, this detached barn is perfectly located for walking, mountain biking and tree surfing nearby.
Sitting on the Devon side of the border in the parish of Gulworthy, Tamar Barn is located just above the river at the scheduled ancient monument, Tamar Bridge (built 1520) crossing into Cornwall at Gunnislake. The Tamar Valley is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and there are many delightful areas to see and explore. Tamar Barn is a detached, converted stone building, which lies adjacent to the owners’ home and has a patio area and enclosed garden for children and dogs to enjoy. Gunnislake has a good range of local shops and pubs, as well as the benefit of a railway station linking you to Plymouth and bus service to Tavistock and Liskeard. Nearby, the Tamar Trails Centre offers a wide range of outdoor activities including walking, mountain biking, archery and high wire tree surfing. Other highlights in the area include the historic mining port of Morwellham Quay and a boat trip down the River Tamar from the pretty village of Calstock. Tavistock has an active local market, and there is access up onto Dartmoor National Park from there. At Plymouth you can stroll across The Hoe or visit the National Aquarium. The coast at both Devon and Cornwall are accessible (beaches 16 miles) and the international golf resort of St Mellion is 15 minutes away. The renowned Horn of Plenty is only ten minutes walk away and offers quality dining. Beach 16 miles. Shops, pubs and restaurants 500 yards.

"The only reason i couldnt give it a 10 was the small leak seaping through the roof in the living area, over all it was exactly what we needed if this place ever goes up for long term rent make sure im the first to know ! Seriously value for money is just incredible"

"Feel very lucky to have been to Tamar Barn. Owners are great, location is great especially if you have a dog as it's on your doorstep. Tamar trails are outside the front door, coast easily accessible and a family holiday not to be missed. Planning to book up again"

"Cottage was really comfortable. And would be great for people without dogs. But the road outside was really busy and noisy from early morning till late at night not what I expected. Also it was supposed to be dog friendly ,fine if you have a large dog. But our dog couldn't be in the garden unless we were with him as there were many escape routes ,under gates. Also couldn't let him out the front for the same reasons. No real dog walking on the doorstep as you had to take your life in your hands and walk a short distance on the road."

"A lovely clean comfortable barn, garden ideal for dogs. Would definitely go back."

"The drive entrance needs some attention, a sign would of helped and very hard to find in the dark.Nice accommodation, comfortable bed, nice warm kitchen but living room was very chilly, yes, it's got underfloor heating but that took ages to heat up, yes,it's got a log burner but if you come in later in the evening it wasn't worth burning fuel. The water system for showers took ages to get hot as did the hot water. Please accept our constructive criticism as positive way forward.Overall nice barn and thank you for letting us stay thereKath & Dave"

"Fantastic barn, lovey owners, well worth the money we paid, it was almost a shame it was not cold enough to use the log burner because that would of been really Cosy. Can’t fault the barn at all."

"One suggestion would be to maybe have a sign on the roadway, as the entrance is a little difficult to find and coming from Cornwall over the bridge into Devon, it is a very sharp left hand turn and steep incline."

"Had everything we needed and if there wasn’t the owner David sorted it!Dog enjoyed it as the garden was enclosed and so did we as we didn’t have to worry, we’ll equipped cottage with good situation to local walks etc."

"Myself, my partner and my brother stayed at the Tamar Barn this March for my birthday surprise. From what started off as an awful holiday (our car broke down on the way there!) soon turned into bliss. Thank you so much to the owners for picking us up from the local supermarket late in the evening, and also sending us our money that we left in the upstairs bedroom! We need honesty like that in the world! The barn itself was very well equipped and was spotlessly clean. I was a little apprehensive at first as one of the reviews mentioned that the garden was not fully enclosed for dogs. This isn't true! There are effectively two gardens: one leading up to the woods and a smaller garden on the side of the barn that is fully fenced off with decking and chairs. I could let my dog out at night to go to the toilet with no fear that he would wander off.The highlight of this barn is definitely the location. Situated in the Tamar Valley, you are about a 10 minute walk away from some of the most beautiful trails. Directly opposite the garden, there is a river trail which has a dozen waterfalls along the way as well as a few caves! The village of Gunnislake does not have much to offer. But even though we were without a car for the first three days we still found plenty of stuff to do. Along the trails we came across some old mines which was an added bonus. We could drive to a dog friendly beach in about 40 minutes. We would also definitely return as the place was excellent value for money - plus the owners were lovely! Thanks again for all your help. Caris, Eddie, Carl, and Boycie :)"
