About this property

… 3 miles from Chagford and quietly hidden from the A382 is the tiny hamlet of Venton, brilliantly accessible and yet very private with just eight dwellings. At the end of the quiet lane and set back behind a little walled garden is this detached cottage, formerly two farm workers’ cottages. To the back, a big, mainly lawned garden with patio (table/chairs), Wendy house and (through lockable gates) use of a good-sized paddock with lily pond (dragonflies) – a great place to run off steam.

Inside, full of character, homely, and welcoming. Large tiled hall with 2 steps up to tiled kitchen/dining room (oil-fired Stanley stove, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, electric 5-hob range cooker) and big table seating 8. Boot/drying room and downstairs loo. On the other side of hall, comfy living room (TV/DVD) with large inglenook fireplace (woodburner) and 2 steps up to sunroom with comfortable seating and view over the garden. Upstairs, three bedrooms – the lovely, light master double (5' bed) with windows to both sides, a twin with stripped floors (rugs), and a small double; smart shower-room (suite) and bathroom (suite). Freezer and tumble drier in garage. Dogs permitted in kitchen and boot room only. A friendly, comfortable cottage in a great position for exploring the moor and Devon.

"We found the booking process easy and communication with the owner excellent. Located just a few miles from the Widdon Down roundabout where there is a petrol station, not always easy to find in Dartmoor. Parking off road outside the property more than ample. Exterior of this large cottage is charming, roses and clematis around the front door path leading the the side and rear all very spacious garden benches lawned area and a large paddock (great for casting practice) leading to a pretty pond. Interior - well laid out, kitchen super, well equipped (could do with a really sharp knife) more than enough crockery glasses etc. Lovey table to sit around and mull over the day, most of ours spent fly fishing on the Upper Teign 1.8 Miles away and the East Dart (Postbridge area) Day ticket available from Chagford or the Hotel at Mill end on a Sunday when shop closed in Chagford. I am told "technical" fishing but catches on both rivers. Comfortable good sized lounge, (not always the case in traditional cottages) little sun room over looks the garden great for catching the warmth of the sun when the weather is not so kind. Large well furnished bedrooms comfortable beds, one bathroom and one shower room. Also downstairs cloakroom near the back door so idea if in the garden. Chagford has a good range of independent shops (deli, butchers and ice cream shop spec mention) Walking- the local river Upper Teign is so tranquil, dappled light, easy to walk foot path, fishing, picnic, painting the location is fabulous. Could not find any negatives, we certainly enjoyed out time at this lovely well maintained property A real treat. Many thanks to Sue the owner. "
