About this property

Detached barn conversion cottage in tranquil rural setting close to miles of wonderful footpaths and cycleways along the Tarka Trail

This comfortable 'get away from it all' barn conversion deep in the North Devon Countryside is a real treat for those looking for some peace and quiet. The Shippen has been well converted to make a lovely family base perfect to explore both the owners' surrounding 7.5 acres of fields, lake and woodlands and the scenic delights of the area beyond, with the Tarka Trail offering miles of footpath and cycle tracks closeby. The special attraction of RHS Gardens Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and the facilities of Torrington including shops, pubs, restaurants and theatre are all within a 10 minute drive. This is the heart of 'Tarka Country' and the landscape has changed little since Henry Williamson wrote his famous novel 'Tarka the Otter' in the 1920's. The town of Torrington is 10 minutes away and the spectacular coastline 10 minutes further. Seaside and surfing fun can be found at Westward Ho! and the family attractions of The Milky Way and The Big Sheep are within 15 minutes' drive. The Shippen was once the dairy barn and has been well restored and improved to make a characterful place to stay. The kitchen/diner is well-equipped and the lounge, with its slate floor and woodburner is cheerful and cosy. The add-on conservatory offers additional living room. There is a bedroom and bathroom downstairs and upstairs the large and bright attic with velux windows has three single beds and a futon along with a TV area,  ideal for children who like a little extra space.
