Snaptrip says

The Bushel is a cosy, peaceful cottage in Devon, praised for its beautiful views and tranquil setting. Guests appreciate the friendly and helpful hosts, Ellen and Rob, and enjoy the proximity to local towns and beaches. While some find the cottage and its facilities a bit dated, the charm of the location and the added bonus of fishing opportunities seem to compensate. The property is ideal for those seeking a rural retreat with a homely feel.

Reviews consistently mention that the accommodation is very clean, suggesting that cleanliness is a priority for the hosts. There are no negative comments regarding cleanliness, indicating high standards are maintained.

The location is highly praised for its peacefulness, beautiful views, and proximity to local amenities and attractions. It is described as an ideal spot for stargazing and enjoying the countryside, yet conveniently close to shops and the coast.

Guests find the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable. However, some reviews mention that the furniture, particularly the sofa, is worn and could be more comfortable. The overall sentiment is positive, but there is room for improvement in this area.

The facilities are generally seen as adequate and well-equipped, but several guests note that they appear 'tired' and suggest updates are needed. While the essentials are provided, attention to detail in maintaining and refreshing the facilities could enhance the guest experience.

The hosts are commended for their thoughtfulness, with mentions of a warm welcome and small touches like scones and cream. While these gestures are appreciated, it is noted that such personal touches may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Surrounded by fields and woodlands, this converted barn provides cosy and comfortable accommodation near the market town of Bideford, North Devon. An ideal retreat for a couple seeking peace and tranquillity. Step into the open plan sitting area and admire the views across the countryside and towards the lakes and beyond through the large windows. The open beams give a rustic feel to this comfortable area and the attractively furnished bedroom enjoys an en-suite. Outside, the private patio is perfect for lazing on sunny days, sipping cool drinks and ideal for al fresco dining or join in with a barbecue evening in the large garden area which is shared with similar cottages on-site. Being set on a working farm guests are welcome to be in thick of things at lambing time or pop down to one of the lakes for a spot of fishing, wildlife spotting or simply enjoy the canopy of stars unblemished by city lights. The market town of Bideford is nearby and offers shops and quayside cafes or hop on a boat to the wildlife haven of Lundy Island or a coastline cruise. The vast expanse of sandy beach at Westward Ho! makes a fabulous day out for sun-worshippers, toe dippers and surfers. The beach has a high pebble ridge which separates it from Northam Burrows where golf lovers can play on the oldest links course in England and enjoy the views at the same time. A trip to the old fishing village of Appledore or the cobbled streets of Clovelly are wonderful browsing days with winding streets and art galleries galore. An experience of rural life, a perfect break to escape your busy routine.

Straddling the Torridge estuary, the quaint bustling town of Bideford boasts a medieval bridge, town quay, quaint pannier market and vibrant shopping area - all well worth a visit. For the more active, several major surfing beaches, golf courses, theme parks and other attractions are nearby and the South West coast path passes close by on its way into Cornwall. The beautiful cliff-top fishing village of Clovelly is half an hour by road, and the delights of Exmoor and Dartmoor can be reached in under an hour. It’s location is great not too far from the A39 but far enough away down country lanes to feel away from everything. The owners are very welcoming and their dogs friendly.
