However, the park in which it is located was run down, overgrown and a little and depressing. The other lodges are generally not very well maintained. Gardens overgrown. The old manor house next to Lavender lodge is derelict. The tennis court adjacent to the lodge is completely overgrown. As far as we could tell there is no street lighting on the park. The roads around the park are also full of deep potholes. So while the lodge itself was great, the park was very disappointing.

The owners provided detailed information in advance, including directions that made us confident of finding the cottage even though it's at the secluded far end of an estate. The lodge was scrupulously clean and very comfortable, with the kind touch of a cream tea welcoming pack.
