About this property

A traditional cottage set within five acres of grounds in the North Devon countrysideA traditional cottage set within five acres of grounds in the North Devon countryside

Adipit Cottage is a two bedroom cottage situated near to the town of Bideford, within the North Devon countryside. The cottage is set within five acres of grounds which are home to the Owners' chickens and sheep.

Internally, the property is traditionally furnished with a cottage feel which includes a wood burner within a stone fireplace. Externally, guests can enjoy the garden and patio area, along with taking in the beauty of the surrounding countryside. A cot, high chair and stair gate are provided for family bookings.

Life in Bideford has historically been based around river life with a thriving import and export industry during the 16th Century with several street names and a hill named in honour of Sir Walter Raleigh. Away from the charm of the town itself, the surrounding area is where you will find the true beauty of the region. Take inspiration from the acclaimed novel Tarka the Otter and set out on a section of the 180 mile long Tarka Trail, which is both cycle and walker friendly.

There are a selection of unique family attractions in the area sure to entertain those of all ages, including the Big Sheep in Bideford, home to sheep racing and dog and duck trials. For thrill seekers, Bideford’s Milky Way Adventure Park offers an all-inclusive day of family fun with roller coasters, indoor play areas, regular shows and a gruelling assault course. Within five miles are the nearest beaches at Westward Ho!

The owners provide guests with freshly laid eggs, as well as a welcome treat on arrival of a cream tea.

...was plenty to do in the area and because the weather was particularly kind to us, we could really enjoy being outside. The stunning scenery of the North Devon coastline is spectacular and we loved watching the surfers into the early evenings as well. Saunton Sands, Woolacombe, Morte Hoe and Point, Ilfracombe and Hartland Quay to name a few. Damien Hirst's statue of Verity in Ilfracombe Harbour is definitely a talking point....we are still undecided! Nearer to the Cottage there is all the history of Bideford and Appledore. A trip to the Northam Burrows Country Park where we saw lots of skylarks. RHS Rosemoor is also very close by - beautiful. We hired bikes from Bideford to cycle on the Tarka Trail. Very easy as you can walk the bike straight up onto the trail. Dartington Crystal Factory and shop. Most importantly, after a long day out we could return to the peace and tranquility of Adipit Cottage and a glass of wine. Dennis and Gilly are lovely hosts and very welcoming. They have been there for many years and it was interesting to read the Visitors Comments Book dating back, I think, to the early 90's. Families returning on a regular basis. Just a flavour of our holiday but one of our most enjoyable. Submitted by Rosie on 30/05/2016

...cottage, it was a very relaxing and peaceful location yet within easy reach of most of the north of Devon. If you love the countryside you will love this cottage, the wildlife the surrounding countryside and the farm animals who come to look you over every so often! The hosts are a very helpful but not intrusive, altogether they contribute to the overall enjoyment with their local knowledge. We will hoefully return soon and enjoy the experience all over again Submitted by Dianne on 16/05/2016

...Adipit is without doubt the best we have ever had. It is a very pretty cottage in idyllic surroundings where the only sounds are of the birds, the nearby sheep and the pheasants which wander around the garden. The cottage is really well equipped with everything you could need and is well maintained and spotlessly clean. Upon arrival on a cold April afternoon, there was a log fire burning in the lounge and a delicious cream tea waiting for us along with a dozen eggs. Gill and Dennis, the owners, who live in the property opposite, made sure we had everything we needed but thereafter were very discreet. However, it was good to know they were on hand if needed and they were very friendly and helpful. The cottage is well placed for exploring Devon and into Cornwall and we will definitely visit Adipit again. Submitted by Janet on 02/05/2016
