About this property

… in Lower Cator, snugly tucked around a part-cobbled courtyard with wonderful walks in all directions from the door, a Devon longhouse (A169) and an ancient hayloft imaginatively converted into a brilliant get-away for two (A177), all with origins in the 15th cent.. They once formed part of a family farm and farming is continued by neighbours. Spring water. A brilliant spot for true country-lovers and walkers.

The longhouse has a big, enclosed lawned garden (table/chairs) at the back. Original occupants would have housed their precious livestock under the same roof; now it’s a cosy cottage with lovely flagstone floors and exposed beamwork, approached over 50 yards of hardcore track. From the courtyard, door to cobbled cross passage (5’5” lintel) with back door to garden; living room with flagstone floor (rug), huge inglenook (woodburner) and TV/DVD; dining room; galley kitchen (washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, fridge-freezer, solid-fuel Rayburn, electric cooker). From dining room, stone stairs up to three bedrooms – a double, a twin, and one with two singles; bathroom (suite with 5’ long bath).

  • Dr and Mrs J Mitchell

"A really beautiful and historic property. The photos don't do it justice. On two days we walked from the front door straight onto the moor - amazing. A nice balance of remoteness with reasonable access to facilities - 30 mins to Pennywell Farm was key for us!"

  • Holidaymaker

"We had a lovely holiday and near perfect weather. Cottage clean and comfortable and in lovely position. Only slight problem was couldn't clean up as well as we would have liked as the vacuum cleaner fairly old."
