    About this property

Dating back to the 13th century, these charming holiday cottages occupy a peaceful location and command views over the owners’ 250-acre working Charolais beef farm, bordered by the River Teign on the edge of the village of Teigngrace. This lovely and popular part of south Devon has much to offer with glorious beaches, meandering estuaries and some very pretty countryside. Also within easy striking distance is the rugged expanse of Dartmoor, its wild beauty changing colour with the varying seasons, its picturesque villages, Dartmoor ponies and tors. Acorn Cottage (ref 25544) and Oak Leaves (ref 25560) were originally farm buildings and have since been carefully converted into two spacious and very comfortable holiday cottages. Side by side each has its own patio. The Farmhouse (ref 25545) was the original farmhouse since 1640 and this now has been tastefully converted for use as a holiday cottage. Apple Blossom Cottage (ref 25546) is the original building, built in the 13th century and was in later years the kitchen for the farmhouse; now it has been tastefully converted to form a very comfortable holiday home. The owners will be delighted to show children around the farm and are always on hand to tell guests of the many attractions this lovely area has to offer. There are also chickens wandering around the farm, look out for the eggs. There is also a designated dog walking area, set in half an acre. Situated close to the owners caravan park, but retaining their privacy, all of the cottages have use of the heated outdoor swimming pool, there are also 2 coarse fishing lakes, (must have own licence or purchase a day ticket). Twelve Oaks is an ideal location for those who want to leave behind the strains of city living and relax in a peaceful rural setting. Wander along pretty streams, explore rambling woods, and trek over undulating hills. There are so many attractions close by including Go Ape or cycling in nearby Haldon Hill, Crealy Adventure Park and Woodlands all within a 25 mile radius. Closer to home, visit Paignton Zoo, Model Village at Babbacombe or the cliff railway. There are some very nice sandy beaches in Paignton, Dawlish, and Goodrington. Take a look at all the National Trust places such as Castle Drogo or Agatha Christies home Greenway. Take a ferry to Dartmouth and visit the castle or take a boat trip up the river. There is the steam train that is always a fun day out. Bird watching at the nature reserve in Dawlish Warren, or for walkers, walk the Templar Way from Teignmouth to Haytor - 21 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

"Lovely property, fantastic for large party as very spacious. Great having the pool for the children. Lovely setting being on the working farm but quiet at same time. Very local to Newton Abbot and beaches. Would highly recommend."

"The owners are extremely friendly. They made us very welcome. The kids ranging from 11 to 6 years loved the farm and the pool. The house was very roomy. The garden was large and ideal for games and barbecues. The fishing lake was nearby. A short walk down the lane and across a field. Very secluded and nice to fish. A large tench caught. Other fish seen in the pool. Teignmouth only six miles from the farm. Excellent location. Large superstores and retail outlets nearby. Plenty of safe parking at the site."

"Lovely spacious house, really well suited to a 3 generation holiday including a 5year old, 2year old and 6month old baby. Owners very welcoming and helpful."

"Fantastic time had by all at Twelve Oaks farmhouse. The house was a great size and easily accommodated two families. Kids had a great time in the warm pool. Owners were very friendly and I would recommend their own meat for BBQs.Location was perfect, 20 mins from the moor or beaches. Shame there was no pub within walking distance, but you can't have everything!Mattresses could be a bit more comfortable, but then again nothing feels like your own bed.We would definitely stay again if we were visiting the area."

"We had a lovely time at the farm house. It was so spacious. The kids loved it. The space was good that the kids and adults could do things they wanted to do. The famer and his wife was very friendly and willing to help. The swimming pool was well used. We had a b-b-q in the garden which everyone enjoyed, sitting out in the lovely garden. There was a little problem in a heavy burst of rain there was a leak in the roof. This was reported to the farmer and I understand he was getting it looked at."

"The family spent a lovely Christmas in the decorated farmhouse. It was well equipped and had everything needed. Homemade cakes and eggs on arrival was a lovely surprise."

"Lovely character building with lots of history. Comfortably housed 6 adults and 4 children and great that a second shower has now been installed over the bath in the bathroom - made mornings much easier! Some lovely touches - fresh flowers, cakes and eggs on arrival. Great that you get use of the pool which is very well maintained. Enjoyed many barbeques in the spacious garden area - great steaks from the shop on the campsite! Would definitely recommend."

"Fantastic spacious farmhouse, has everything you need and more. Clean and comfortable with plenty of space for the kids. Lovely area to visit, lots of great places nearby including easy access onto cycle trails. We will definitely be back!"

"A spacious home with a modern Kitchen, nicely decorated, a beautiful garden. The salted water pool is a bonus and very warm. The only downside is whilst they are 2 bathroom with a toilet in each, there is only 1 shower and a bath which for 6 adults and 4 kids was bit of a battle as to who was getting in the shower first. A shower over the bath would make it easier. But would definitely come back"

"Everyone enjoyed it; especially the pool for the kids"
    Anita
"Lovely farmhouse and good location. It was spacious with a beautiful garden and in a lovely, quiet location surrounded by farm animals. However, with a party of 9 (including two young children) it really does need a second shower; one shower is not sufficient -there was a bath (no shower over bath) but this was not really practical. Also, the back garden has an opening that leads directly onto a busy road and with young children this caused us some concern; we felt that this definitely needed a gate as it was not safe. The information on the farmhouse on-line does need up-dating, in regards to the bath/shower facilities, it also advises that there is a charge for the Wi-Fi per device but Wi-Fi is free and the wood burning stove is no longer in use. Overall we had great holiday and the sun shone almost every day!"

"Extremely spacious rooms which ensured that the children could play and enjoy themselves while the adults had copious space. The kitchen was modern and very well equipped. There was enough crockery to cater several times over the maximum number of guests. The building itself was full of character with its quirky walls and floors. There was also good outside space in the garden with large table and chairs for when the weather was kind. The swimming pool was well appreciated by the children and unlike many pools was warm and did not take your breath away when taking the plunge. The children also enjoyed seeing the chickens either wandering around or in their large chicken pen. There is a childrens' play ground but it is fairly basic. The one thing we missed was adequate drying facilities for the washing when the weather did not allow you to use the outside drying lines. The hosts were very friendly and amenable. They provided nice little touches such as fresh flowers in the dining room, an initial batch of free eggs (which could then be purchased daily), and a batch of extremely tasty cakes on arrival."

"A wonderful large spacious house with a new first class kitchen.Excellent value for money. Could do with an extra bathroom or two but then would be moved to a more expensive tariff. Owners are a fantastic couple with great staff. Pool was excellent. We will be back"

"The farmhouse is a wonderful size with plenty of space to spread out. It felt very much like being in our own family cottage. The gardens were great for the kids to run around in and the pool was an instant hit! The Gale’s were great hosts/landlords and wonderfully helpful. July 2011."
